ARB High Output On-Board Air Compressor Under the Hood JK Installation Write-Up

Guy with a Red 2-Door
The red solo wire is connected to a hot wire yes.

Checked the ground with a multimeter it was good. The fuse is not burnt out and it seems to be seated properly.

Stupid question but Is the key turned on when your trying it?

U definitely have rocker switches hooked up right and on switch 1 vs switch 2? On rocker end and in engine compartment too? 1 has to be on for 2 (locker) to work. Also compressor only fires on for a few seconds with the tiny tank

Im not using it for lockers right now just air up my tires. Lockers in the future though.

Yes I have tried with the jeep on. No wire is hooked up to a wire that requires the jeep to be on.

The stand alone red wire is plugged into a hot and so is the blue/white. Everything else is working all other accessory I'd working the compressor doesn't seem to want to. Im out of ideas

I didn't read through the write up but looking at it from a simple troubleshooting angle. Have you tested voltage at the compressor? I would disconnect wiring there first and rule out compressor issues. If you don't have voltage there, I would next check at the output on your relay. If you don't have voltage there, check to confirm voltage on the line side of relay. If yes on line side no on load side, then you have a control voltage issue or bad relay. You should be able to verify control voltage by disconnecting at relay and testing voltage with switch on. Are you series wired through a pressure switch?

Connect the red/yellow wire to a 12 volt source and your compressor will work.
(See post #46)

That was done already I think I mentioned that.

We checked voltage at all steps along the way and git voltage sometimes and no voltage others.

Ok I think I figured it out. We shall see after this next test. Thank you all for your help!

I'm very curious. I was gonna suggest hooking up an attachment and try filling tires. Maybe once u try to draw it will turn on...ur tank may be full all this time and in that case, with no air release, it will seem to not work....

Just thinking....

There's a red wire and a red/yellow wire. The red/yellow wire is not mentioned in the write up. That was the issue for me. I hooked both red and red/yellow wire up to the battery and the compressor worked.

Sorry, I didn't read were you mentioned hooking up the red/yellow wire.

I see the step for hooking the yellow/red wire to the switch, but there's no step mentioned about the other end of that wire.

When I finished installing the unit I was left with two loose wires-the red/yellow and blue/white. The blue/white dims the the switch light and the red/yellow powers the switch (I believe).

If you read the comments from the Project-JK write up, a couple of people had the same issue. This was the case with me. I dunno, maybe I overlooked the step, but I read the write-up over and over trying to figure out what I did wrong.

Well, if I recall, I specifically point out to follow the wiring diagram that comes with your kit. I believe it clearly indicates what you need to do with the red/yellow wire. If that isn't clear enough, I'll go back and try to word it so that it is.

Okay, I just added the following line to step #40:

Please take note that there will be one additional loose RED/YELLOW wire and it will need to be connected to a 12 volt source. I just hooked mine up to my battery as I prefer to have my lockers stay on even with the engine off. This is especially helpful if you have a manual transmission.

I hope that helps to clear things up.

Just wanted to make a quick addition to this writeup after finishing the install on my 2014. First off as someone mentioned earlier I found it nearly impossible to install the mounting bracket and then the compressor. I ended up removing the bracket, mounting the compressor to it, and then bolting them up as a single unit.

Second, I used the Rugged Ridge a pillar switch panel for my install rather than the Daystar. Several people have mentioned they had a difficult time locating a place to connect the blue/white wire. Rather than attempt to run a wire over to the window switch area, I connected it in the drivers door wire harness to an orange/grey wire. Seems to be working well.

That is all. Hopefully it helps someone out.

So, did you get it working?

Yes!! Thank you all for your input but every single one of us was wrong  ...

It was just corroded battery terminals, it didn't have a good connection. That is why we would get it sometimes to work then other times it wouldn't. We were stumped and baffled as to why we got 12v on the multimeter when testing the battery but still wouldn't turn on. Washed up the terminals and BAM worked like a charm! This thing airs up my 35s no problem LOVE IT! Besides my stupidity this write-up worked wonderfully. Thank you Eddie for taking the time to write and post these up!
