35's or no?

So there have been a few posts similar to mine, but I wanted to start a thread unique to my situation. I want to get 35 inch tires. BUT, it will be a while (up to a year) before I have the chance to regear. I need new tires really soon, but I don't feel it's cost effective to buy a set of 32s now then a set of 35s in a year. I have a 2010 Jk sport.

What gears do you have?

Are you stock height?

Do you have stock fenders?

More info and we can be of more assistance.

Being a 2010 I believe I have a D44 rear and 30 front with 3.73 gears. And I also currently got that whopping 3.8 liter. Lol. But it's the stock sport trans, 5 speed auto.

Yes stock height, ordering bushwhacker flats tomorrow. So I'll have the clearance and all after I trim that damn seam and get my spacers.

With that gear ratio you will be good to go. No need to regear if you don't have the cash. I ran the same set up for a while and it was sluggish but bearable. Eventually you will want to regear but otherwise you will be good

I'm okay with "sluggish" for a while. It's good to know it was bearable though. How was the ride on slightly hilly freeways? Like O/D, mpg, etc. I live in MI and I go from one side of the state to the other (~170 miles) when I travel to and from school once a month or so.

It tends to search for gears a lot on hills and in a stron head wind but Eddie told me that if you turn the O/D off it will not search as much. I was getting about 16.5 on the highway depending upon how windy it was or how many hills I had.

I would cut your stock flares instead of ordering the bushwackers, save that $600+ for your new gears

I'm not far from you in Commerce. Not sure what kind of tires you want to get but the Discount Tire on Haggerty near Pontiac Trail is great. The guy who installed mine there has a lifted JK and he went so far as to mount up two of my Trail Grapplers with each of the sidewall design on each side of the Jeep so I could pick which one I liked best. The he flopped them to all match. Hell he even lined up the valve stems so they all pointed to same letter on each of the tire. I would recommend that place to anyone around here. Great service!!

I could live with 16.5! Best I've ever gotten in the jeep is 20.1mpg. But yeah OD off seems to help on those bad days

Im in livonia so my plan was to take it to the d. Tire in livonia. I'm sure they'll do me some good. Biggest concern is whether they'll mount the 35x12.5 on my stock rims??

Being an auto, I would recommend to look into a aftermarket trans cooler. I know some people don't get overheating issues, but others do (and I've heard rumours of a couple jk's catching fire from atf hitting the boiling point and coming out of the dip stick tube, right onto the passenger side exhaust manifold). I'm not sure what kind of hills you have around you, but where I'm at I had trans temp issues climbing up a local mountain when coming home from the desert. Although it's not a mountain I have to climb frequently, it was still scary and that was with 4.10s and 33s. Not trying to say you MUST get a cooler, Just a friendly "better safe than sorry" suggestion to look into it:beer:

I agree with The Duff!! Aux cooler asap I have a 09 sport and got the "hot oil" message twice so have a hammock handy nothing like letting the jk cool while catching some zzzz's

I've been running 35s on stock gearing close to a year and a half now it's not too bad even with the 3.8 lol I get around 16-17 mpg driving "normal" superchips helps out a lot with the auto trans shift points you'll be fine on stock gears 👍

Ugh, I know a lot of you guys on here like the trimmed fenders but there's just something about them that bugs the hell outta me!

I've thought about buying a used set off Craigslist to trim or have around if I get tired of the trimmed look. I saw a jeep in person the other day with the bushwackers and I'd have to say they don't look that great in person, IMO. I guess they're TOO flat. I just can't justify spending $600+ on a mod with benefits that can be had for free.

You will need 1.5" spacers to get 35x12.5 to fit on stock rims. Most tire shops I know off will not deal with the spacer part but they will mount the tires for you.

On the contrary, I have a guy right down the street from me that has them and I think they look awesome. Everyone has different tastes though I guess. I'm 19 with bad spending habits so I find it very easy to justify :)
