help with d30 or d44

so I was thinking of buying the terra flex HD d30 replacement housing but I wanted to get some feedback from more experienced jeepers.
I have a 2012 jku auto w/AEV 3.5 lift, 35" trail grapplers and 3:73 gears and only run green and some blue trails. I want to run 37's and 4:56 gears and not worry about bending my housing or c's while running the green/blue trails. I will be having new gears and ball joint installed at the same time.
does anyone have any info on this d30? does this sound like a good option for the type of wheeling I do. all reply's appreciated! unless your being a smart ass:)

I know that people will say just get a d44 but then I would have to buy a ton of parts to fill the d44. can some one tell me what parts I would need and how much they should cost to be able to run a terra or pro rock d44 including 4:56 gears. Thanks John M

Whatever you do stay away from the teraflex d30 and 44. You will spend as much money building them up as you will a pr44. If you go to northridge4x4 you can build you own pro rock to you liking or they have a special package already with parts picked for you for I think $4700.

The pro rock will be more than you need based off of what you said and you will not have to worry about bending anything

I wouldn't even consider a teraflex axle, much less a terra30 for 37" tires. Give Northridge a look and price out a pr44 with the parts you want. Even if the terra30 has a beefier housing, it's the internals that are going to be your weak point with 37" tires.

also depending if you have for a jeep (auto/stick), I would go lower then 4.56s with 37s in the picture. I have a 30/44 with 4.88 locker in the back on 37s with standard tranny. I have run blacks and reds at RC np. the 30 will hold up for some time but i plan on getting a pr44 in the winter ($4700).

right now i have a d30 and was going to install new gears f/r, ball joints, sleeves and c-gussets for around 2600.00. then I saw the beefier terra d30 for 1800.00 and thought it might be better to have a stronger housing that hasn't been drilled and welded and still be as strong. I have 3400.00 for housing and front and rear gear install. 4700.00 for the pro rock 44 plus gears and install labor for the rear and labor to remove d30 and install d44 would probably cost a total 5500-6000. thats a little to steep for me

You could build it to be bolt in ready, then pull and replace the front axle yourself. Then only need the shop to replace your rear axle ring and pinion.

the issue with the D30 is the pinion gets smaller as you get lower gears, I'd recommend 4.88's if you plan to run 37's.

When I was pricing out a PR44 Unlmtd but there were so many options on the various vendor sites the price escalated quickly. I called Dynatrac and they got me the right combination which saved me $$$.

I would recommend you call Dynatrac and have them price out a PR44 unlmtd within your budget - they have so many combinations it's crazy.

If they ship it as a complete assembly the swap is really pretty simple.

If you installed your lift you can do the axle swap.

I didn't install my lift but I'm a plumber by trade so I could probably do the swap myself.. Only problem i see is weather I have all the tools I would need to complete the job

Where are you located? I'm sure some of us are close by and would swing by to help you remove the d30 and install the new pro rock

We are all jeepers and share a common bond. Like I said I'm sure someone would. I know I would come down and help if I was available

maybe I could have one delivered to me and if it would fit in my jeep, drive to a fellow jeepers house. not sure it would fit though

How is the Tera30 better than the Dynatrac PR44?

Please provide information as I will need new axles soon and want to make the best choice?

I got the tera30 with the increased castor pinion. It also has the extra thick 3 inch tubes and huge C's and a welded multi position track bar mount and heavy duty cover. All my 30 parts fit right in. If I break something it will likely be an axle or ujoint that crumbles before my r&p. Fairly inexpensive and i can afford this a few times over since the cost was way under a new 44 with all the parts. I even had cash left over for gears and a trutrac. If I had more dough I would have done the ter44 but insurance was only paying for a stock front d30 housing.
Sure i would love 44s, 60s or 80s and the indestructible rig but We do what we can afford...
