Black fuel rotopax?

Years ago I was buying 5 gallon race jugs for the dirt bike fuel. They had red ones that were "for fuel" and all kind of other colors labeled "not for fuel". My buddy and I asked what the difference was. Salesman said just the color. It is illegal to use the other ones for fuel. We bought white ones and have used them for 10+ years without a problem. I've even been pulled over several times with the dirt bikes and white jugs in back.. Cops have never said a word.

Anyone who mistakes the nasty smelling gas for water might deserve what's coming next.

And to anyone pouring water straight out of a jug to put out a fire really should have thought about buying a fire extinguisher.

I had the AEV fuel caddy...it's sold and long gone. I was just hoping to keep with the all black theme with the rotopax. Is it a big deal? No, but of I had a choice between black or red, there would be no contest.

So you like them blacks?

Not a big deal at all. But from what I've read, there is a difference in the material/surface material for different fluid containers made by roto. These might be different than cans/jugs made by other companies. So use a fuel roto and make sure it's marked.

Exactly!!! Ohh and dont forget the auto shutoff pour spout. Who cares if you cant get gas out of the damn can... at least it wont spill or spew vapors out...

Or the group/state that makes it near impossible to modify a car without a damned OE number.

Honestly I am sliiiiiightly concerned if there are different materials used for petroleum products, but I could give two shits if the commefornia air resources board doesn't like what color plastic is on my Texas rig. For that matter I wouldn't really care if it was melting the ozone or pissing off Hippi Prius owners....it would have to be gassing baby seals by the thousands before my severely handicapped enviro-conscience started tingling in the slightest. As long as my plastics color choice isn't the root cuase for setting my own rig/house/neighborhood on fire and I'm not breathing gas fumes, I'm happy.

On that note, after 2 hours of wasted time on google and starting a pointless thread here, I've succumbed to buying red rotopax. I am now on the search for a clever way of mounting them to my evo carrier.

If I had a nice all black rig like yours the last thing I would want is red fuel containers attached to my tire carrier. I don't think its a big deal.

Do any of you store fuel in the interior? I am assuming that these CARB approved leak proof containers don't emit any fuel fumes?

i dont. i personally would never store fuel inside the jep anyway. i would feel safer with it on the outside.

mounting wise there was some pics on facebook and maybe on here of a few new mounting spots evo had for the carrier. not sure if they are making the brackets or not but it still looked good. let me see if i can track them down.

im sure it would mount very similar to how it would to the evo carrier. we would need to remount your license plate then as well.

I would love to see how the mounts are fabricated so I could have a local fab shop weld up something similar. I did ask Drew about these when I had my Jeep there and do know for a fact that they are not available for retail sale yet.

I don't do fuel on the inside...water and storage

But fuel on the tire carrier...

But when the top is off, the fuel might as well be inside the jeep

Buy your mounts and cans. Show your fabricator where you want them. Any good fabricator can make you brackets.

I was thinking about using genrights tube clamps, but those are like 70 for the pair which is too expensive. Maybe ill just weld on some studs or something down the line if I ever finally order the mount. Just so expensive for some extra fuel.

I'm in the same boat not sure how to do it but still haven't been in the damn I wish I had extra gas situation to get me started.
