40" tires

Hey all. Looking to buy a set of 40" tires. I would like to get the Toyo Open Country but currently out of stock everywhere. Anyone heard any news on these as to when they may become available? Also, I know there have been discussions on the MTR-Kevlars out there stating weak sidewalls. Is this true with your guys' experience. What about the new ProComp Extreme Mud Terrain or the Nitto Trail Grappler? Thanks

I can only speak of the MTR's. My buddy has a set of 35's on his CJ. They are what I'd call really stiff. The compound seems to be hard and they stand pretty tall when aired down. They dont bite that well, at least compared to the BFG KM2's I was running at the time. I haven't heard many good things about them.

I have the mtr's dont love them. Do like them. Was all I could get my hands on. Wouldnt spend the money for 40s on them.

Is there a rubber shortage I'm unaware of?

I think it's more of an unexpected demand. People got tired of 37's and jumped to 40's I guess. I'm years away from 40's(if ever). Even Eddie had to settle for Toyos because Nittos were not available in the near future. But I've even heard from a few guys that Toyo MTs are getting hard to come by.

Where's everywhere? Here's the two I bought a couple weeks ago and I just ordered three more on Friday, and picked up one of those three today. I'll have the last two of my order in my hands tomorrow afternoon. Got all five at America's Tire (Discount Tire). ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1430199213.979667.jpg

Strange. They don't come up on Americas, Discount Tires, or Discount Tire Direct sites. I'll call them today to see if there are any left. Anyone run the Procomps? Any good, how are the sidewalls?

I ordered 5 from simpletire.com about a month ago. They had several sets available when i bought mine so they might still be in stock. Its worth a call anyways.

I just canceled my order from the local tire store. I have been waiting about 5 weeks for 40" open country's. Simple tire had them in stock and they ship out today. Thanks for the suggestion. I have never heard of hat site before

Called Simple tire the other day and they had 20 toyos in stock (40"). I have a set coming through a local shop.

If you live on the west coast, I was at Les Schwab Tires two days ago and had the manager check his computer for availability and they have at least 40 of the 40x13.5x17 Toyo Open Country's in their warehouse in Prineville, Oregon. He said they can be at a local store for pick up within two days. I believe Discount/America's Tire may still have a few left in their SoCal warehouse as well, this was as of last Friday.
