Hey guys, I'll be moving to Colorado in the next two weeks. I'm from Florida and it's really lacking in the trail department. Therefore I'm super excited to try out some real trails lol. Is there any recommended for a beginner? I look forward to wheeling with some of you. Pretty happy that I will be much closer to try and attend some of the trips you all go on. Also on a side note...hope everyone has a good day today!

I moved to Colorado from Florida a year ago, no regrets. You're gonna love it out here. I'm up for a run when you get here. Safe travels

There's no shortage of folks who will run a trail at any given moment. I'm in the aurora area (technically denver, but only by a few blocks.)

Welcome to CO. You'll have plenty of good trails. For starters how's your jeep setup. I think twin cone or red cone are good trails to ease you in on or Georgia pass. It's not a hard trail but a fun trail. On Oct 4th there's a group of us heading up Geneva Creek. Just a good fall run with the aspens changing.

Read somewhere the highest point in Florida is about 400ft. Some of the trails and passes here are 13,00 feet plus. Get a copy of Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails and prepare to enjoy. Welcome to Colorado.:yup:

Also, wait about a week or two...going from FLA to Denver area will be exhausting enough on your respiratory system, then to try to go immediately to a 10k+ ft trail will have you GASPING.
and WELCOME!!

Hey thanks guys for the warm welcome. And the great advice. I am so excited to live there finally.

I have stock 3.73 gears on 2015 JK w/6spd yet still run 35's with 4"suspension lift. I know not very good but Florida is seriously flat everywhere only hills are usually fake. I Plan on putting my stock tires back on for gas mileage, hills, etc during the trip. Now the other question I have is, should I leave the stock tires on this time until I regear? Since it will no longer be flat around everywhere? Thanks again everyone! ✋

How much does a regear run? What gears should I choose living there? Is it something I could do at home? I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I put my lift on.

Trail jeeps and northridge4x4 have shops nearby aurora. They both will run $999 gear swap specials for both axles with all parts included.

It's probably something you don't want to do alone for your first time.

I run 5.13's with 37's. You will probably want at least 4.56 maybe 4.88. If you go 37's the. I highly recommend 5.13's. Northridge is one of 2 shops I'd recommend. I know for a while they had the $999 gear special. You'll spend that to $1200 on the regear depending on if you do a basic rebuild or major rebuild on the gear kit.

Thank you guys for the input and that doesn't sound bad at all after we get situated they will be my next upgrade for sure. I think I'll go with 4.88's

So I ended up moving to Brighton, Colorado. I'm here and itching to go on a trail. What trails aren't too far away that I could run. I currently have my stock sport tires on but could put my 35" m/t back on ( except I'm running 3.73 still with 6spd ). Would I have to disconnect my swaybar links for the trails? Either way my wife and I really want to do a trail in the mountains. I told her you guys were the ones to ask lol

If you want a fun moderate trail with your rig, do the Middle St Vrain/Coney Flats trail. It's about a 3-4 hour trail and you'll be fine with 35s and 3.73s. If you have 32s stock, you'll be fine and no need for the disconnects. I have 3.73s and 32s and did it, there's some light to moderate rock sections with great views and a good chance of seeing moose. Youtube has lots of videos on this trail as well. The earlier you get up there, the better as there will be less traffic on the trail, some of the spots are not cool if you have oncoming traffic (too narrow). Make sure and air down on that one too, some mud and lots of rocks.

Also as a previous poster suggested that book, definitely get that book, great resource.

I've also included a USFS Land use map :
http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5165768.pdf

If you zoom in on it, there are black/white checkered lines (use the key and you'll see). These are all forest roads and 4x4 roads. I would suggest researching each road via google too to make sure you don't get in over your head. Miller Rock is a trail that has some good rock crawling from what I've heard too.

Welcome to Colorado. I'm in what was unincorporated Arapahoe county, technically Centennial now. Plenty of trails within an hours drive. My brother and I will be running either Coney Flats/MSV or T-33A this upcoming Sunday. If you're already in-state you're more than welcome to tag along.

Plans are still being solidified, but we should probably be out and hitting the trailhead by 8-8:30am. I'll post again later on as I should have full details later on today/early tomorrow.
