Here is another place we found before moving to Colorado a few years ago. You have to park and walk in and ca explore. Better on a sunny day, although might be pretty this time of year

The Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan, CO.

I want to go wheeling so bad. I can't even drive my jeep for 2 months now while my leg heals after a skiing accident last week. Keep pictures coming while I live vicariously through you guys.

If you have a spare day to dedicate, I would go check out Beulah, CO

Directions: head down US-50 towards Pueblo West from Pueblo and make a left on 45 (Pueblo Blvd) I think....and then travel down and make a right on 78. Once you get into Beulah you make a left at the fork on Pine Drive and head up into the mountains (Pueblo Mountain park) will be on your right and if you continue past it you'll go up into the mountains and there are camping areas and nice trails to walk up that way. Popular spot it seems for people to pickup their christmas tree's as I found out.

Me and my wife live in Pueblo North and we regularly go out with two popular Jeeping Groups on "Meetup" - they are also located on Facebook as well.

High Country 4x4 Adventure Group
&
Colorado Jeep People.

There is also a group called 'Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery' - search them on facebook. If you ever get stuck, they're a great group of people. They will dispatch people to help you out. :thumb:

On the road to Ouray near the north side of McClure Pass is the Crystal Mill, one of the most photographed places in Colorado. It's a modest challenge from the town of Marble. It's awesome if you're fortunate enough to see it in the fall colors.

Ok I want to go there and DO NOT DIG SHELF ROADS! How is this road I have seen some videos and looks pretty scary.

County Road 3 (aka Crystal River Jeep Trail #314)

Just relocated to Montrose Co., on the western slope(temporally due to work for the next year and a half) ... Cant wait for summer to rollback around!!! Some pics of our last summer trip to check out the area, what a great place to explore the high mountains and mining history! Especially for a desert rats like us!

Don't know about work around the area or what you do but this area is pretty nice and the city of Montrose is pushing it hard as the new hot place to relocate to.....

Do not know if I commented. Beautiful shots! How was the roads?

Multi-day Colorado Man Trip

I'm surprising my best friend for his 30th birthday and flying him into Denver for a 4 day, 3 night offroad, camping, man fest through the mountains of Colorado in June/July. Between him and I, we have all the camping gear we'll need. Here's what I don't have:

1) a route that will take use 4 days to complete, filled with spectacular views, a few good obstacles but nothing crazy (I might still be on stock suspension at that point), and some good fishing
2) any idea of the hardware I'll need to take to support us from a Jeep perspective. Used to hiking into the backcountry, not driving. I'm assuming I'll need to get the basic offroad kit (tree saver, pulley, etc)

Because we'll be alone, I don't want to do anything too crazy that's gonna get us stranded. Most of the fun will just be in getting out into the woods together.

Ideas and thoughts on 1 and 2?

Use this link to check road status prior to going out: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/arp/recreation/?cid=stelprdb5339508. With the snow we've had this year, hard to predict when roads will be open. There is so much out here in our area, possibilities are endless. For road trips, there's Breckenridge, Grand Lake, Aspen, Estes Park, tons more! We drive the peak to peak hwy many Sundays just for fun, go from Lyons to Estes then South to Denver and back home. As far as offroad, as I said earlier, too early to predict. Any of those forest roads that are open, you can camp off of for free and get away from crowds. Most are not near lakes though for fishing. Not many obstacles on the trails up here, nothing too tough. I would always care basic tools like sockets/wrenches, duct tape, zip ties, tire repair kits, straps etc. #1 tip, make sure someone knows where you'll be and when you'll be returning. You could always buy a Spot messenger too to let someone know your ok via GPS satellite.

Thanks for the link and the tips. Definitely will keep that in mind!

Anyone else have suggestions?

If you are a member of AAA ( you can join per year) you can get on site and add all towns and they can send you a travel tiki. You can all order for free if a member books for the area with points of interest, places to stay and eat.

I think I'm missing something here. Travel tiki?
