Teraflex HD Hinge not flush?

Mine sits the same way. If you look through the gap with a flashlight you will see the hinge makes contact with the tailgate where it mounts. The gap is intentional so that rust does not develope.

Hope this helps. By the way, mine works fine and not a single rattle from the tailgate. I use the tailgate throughout the day so the single operation of this product is perfect for me.

Interesting. Is your gap uniform across the tailgate or does it make contact behind the tire? My gap tapers out toward the hinge.

So helpful! Thanks Sharkey!

I gave you your answer about 14 pages ago. You just didn't want to hear it.

If you checked all of the bolts and mounting hardware, then the only answer is that your carrier doesn't fit perfectly and has a gap. So, really, all you asked by starting this entire crapfest is whether everyone else's carrier fits as shitty as yours. Whether the answer is yes or no matters not, because yours has a gap.

If it makes you feel better though, I'll answer again. The TeraFlex carrier is a substandard carrier made in China...of course it is not going to perfectly follow your tailgate's lines.

It does matter. I'm asking if this is by design or if mine isn't seated as it was intended. Your opinion was just that - you don't have one of the carriers, you've never installed it - your opinion isn't as valid to me as someone who has first hand experience with one. I'll continue to poll the community and respond to those who actually have them until I'm satisfied. Something wrong with that? :idontknow:

It's made in China. I wouldn't expect it to sit flush, or hold the tire for very long. Sorry, but that carrier is not something I would trust.

So I just want to make sure I understand your comment. It's made in China so it is crap. Aren't the beloved ATX slabs made in China?

Just asking. You can bash the company but that is a pretty bold statement.

Poll or troll the community?

Let's make this a bit clearer, from my original post:

"those with the Teraflex HD hinge on the tailgate, does yours sit completely flush against the tailgate from the top looking down?"

I was asking *those with the hinge* how it sits on their Jeep. I didn't ask *those without the hinge* what they think about the quality or TF as a company, did I? If I had, I would have gladly listened to your opinion.

No, it's made for TeraFlex in China so it's crap. Sorry I wasn't more specific. It would probably still be crap even if it was made in America. In my opinion, TeraFlex quality control sucks balls.

Are there companies out there that outsource production but still care enough about what they are selling to make sure that what they receive back from China and put on the market meets a high standard of quality? Of course there are. Are there American companies that don't outsource production and still make substandard stuff? Of course there are. I have seen enough pictures of enough failed TeraFlex products, and I have read enough of their "installer error" claims, that I personally have no faith in their quality control. The fact that the product is made in China just adds to the problem.

Answers to all questions in this thread below (in no particular order):

1) The tailgate is curved and there are variances in the body from jeep to jeep. 2) The carrier, no matter how shitty it is made, appears straight (or as straight as the little Chinese kids can make them). Therefore, gap. 3) Too many douche bags have access to the Internet and an overinflated sense of self worth.

You're welcome. Enjoy the weekend.

Maybe I am mistaken. I thought that was you that had everyone on WAL figured out. Maybe it was the Porsche asshole. Either way, I'm not going back through this thing to figure out. You already stated that you remember why you never log in here. So why not make a habit of remembering why you don't log in here before you actually log in?

How am I an asshole? Do you know me? So I work on Porsches just cause you can't afford one shouldn't make me an asshole... :)

The fact that you had to let everyone know you would be "playing with Porshes" all day makes you come off as one. I don't feel the need to put my business out there to prove my self worth to society. So yes, you come off as an asshole and no, I don't know you, nor would I want to know you. As far as affording things like a Porshe, I feel it is more much more gratifying to live a somewhat debt free lifestyle. Could I afford it? Maybe, but it wouldn't make me happy. It's more fun being able to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. In closing, your lumping of everyone into a "flat-billed, vaping" group made you look like even more of an asshole and I'm pretty sure any attempt to save face with the WAL crowd will not go over well. Have a great weekend driving your Porsche. :thumb:
