I got the following email from a Michael Van Casteren and decided to share it with all of you because it sincerely troubled me to know that there are so many people out there with an education from one of America's higher learning institutions and yet, are completely clueless as to how the real world works. For one, Instagram is not a job, it's a waste of time. If it were a job, you'd get paid for using it instead of helping to line Mark Zuckerberg's pockets. Likewise, getting people to "follow you" is not a talent and having 2,000 of them is not a resume, it is the reason why you're asking for a handout.

Subject: WAYALIFE Jeep Forum Contact Us Form - Partnership/Sponsorship

The following message was sent to you via the WAYALIFE Jeep Forum Contact Us form by Michael Van Casteren ( mailto:mvancasteren721@gmail.com ).

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Michael Van Casteren,

I recently messaged your instagram page looking for a sponsor for my 2011 Jeep WK2 Grand Cherokee. I have previously logged plenty of freelance marketing for various startups in the past two years, some including Kyboe Watch Company, Hard Exercise Works, and Skeleton Optics. Within the past month I have decided to self-brand more and more utilizing my instagram specifically. So far I have increased my followers from 1159 to currently 1677 followers within the past month. By liking others posts, commenting on posts, following users and creating some pretty cool content I must say I have increased my following and interactivity substantially. At this rate, by the end of November I will have 2000 followers, obviously increasing interactivity even more. With my last 6 posts I have an average of 216 likes, as well as an average of 8 comments, mostly including invitation for features on their page. I am confident I will double that within the next two months at the current place and possibly triple that in the future with the help of this sponsorship/partnership with sponsors.
A little about me I am a senior at Lynn University in Boca Raton Florida, I have up to this point created an overall image for myself throughout Palm Beach County by working with multiple startups. If you watch Lynn University Campus Tour Video you will see me as the face that represents my university. One of my classmates is Tiffany Kohler, owner of “Camaro Porn” after a discussion with her she encouraged me to begin to look for sponsors for a build and really utilize my marketing talents. I have attached my resume as well to show what I have accomplished in my professional field at the age of 21. I have been very driven and eager to begin to market myself within the car modification industry, which I have been so passionate about my entire life. I obviously would go through with a build by myself if I had the funds to do so; I am currently paying my way through private education by having multiple student jobs on campus as well as always looking for jobs off campus.
My current modifications include: K&N Cold Air Intake System, DiabloSport InTune Tuner, 20” Summit Rims, as well as blacking out my trim with Plasti Dip. The 2011 Grand Cherokee in my opinion is the most underappreciated years in modification industry; this does not make sense to me, as 2011 was the first year for the WK2 Body for current models. I plan to work with sponsors and develop long-term partnerships with your company to help market your product on my journey in creating a build inspired by each and every one of my sponsors, while increasing brand awareness and interaction.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration, I hope to hear from you soon,

Michael Van Casteren

Unfortunately, culture is teaching our young adults that this is how the real world is. The only thing I admire is his passion to write such a time-consuming email (assuming it wasn't copy/paste to a bunch of people). I am all for someone doing whatever they want with their life and pursuing their goals, but I am saddened that this young kid really thinks this will work out for him. Our culture is filled with 'How can I use others to make me look better' mentality :grayno:

His literary skills are obviously far superior than mine. The way I read it makes it seem like he thinks 2000 IG followers is a big number or something.

By that logic, with my 100+ followers, I'm a "D" list celebrity.

LOL!! He could have 100,000 "followers" or even 1 million of them but he'd still have no money and would still be asking for a handout. That's because Instagram is NOT a job.

Shoot, the Kardashian's don't do shit and they seem to make money off instagram posts...maybe we are missing something...or maybe it's just that nobody wants a sex tape with hairy Jeep guys...:beer::bleh:

What would I do with a million Instagram followers? I'll tell you what I'd do...

You should sponsor me Eddie, I am still paying college loans, and I dont have an Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat. I constantly bounce on and off Facebook (cant completely delete the damn thing). I hate social media for the most part but this forum is great with all the free shit given away and the classifieds. I'm just a lurker though and came for the videos. So really people wouldn't know you sponsor me except for my buddies.

LOL, just kiddin.

It's sad that people even think like this. He's in for a big disappointment.
He might as well be standing at the end of a freeway ramp asking for money. He would probably have better results.
With all of his education he hasn't learned a thing. But he thinks he deserves it.
My advice keep working, suck it up and save your money.

When "the worst they can say is No" goes wrong LOL.

2k followers is nothing, I dont know who he thinks hes fooling trying to market off his tiny page. Although instagram is a super good way to market, nobody is going to take him or his WK2 serious.
Instagram may not solely be a job but there are several jobs that require to using it.

He could have a million "followers" and the only thing I would take serious is how much of his current employer's time he's wasted getting to that point.

Instagram may not solely be a job but there are several jobs that require to using it.

Posting up pics on Instagram is not a Job. A JOB that requires you to posts up pics on Instagram, is. One pays you, one doesn't. There is a difference.

I'm so sick of people trying to get "sponsors". Get a fucking job...a real job. Go to work every day and actually contribute something of value to society. Does this snot-nosed, fuck-stick think that sponsors are going to pay his health insurance? Or his mortgage? Or buy him food? Learn an actual trade, make yourself useful. IG is not a job; posting on IG is not work. Fuck I hate social media. It's created a culture where people actually think they are so important that other people will want to "follow" them just because they exist on this planet.
