PSC Ram assist leaking?

Well my power steering is gone now, the pump has completely failed. It has fluid in it but it's leaking pretty badly.

I haven't personally had to deal with their customer service, but everything I've heard and read says PSC stands behind their stuff and has great customer service. Still sucks, but they'll likely send you a new pump if you give them a call.

Yeah, I'll give them a call on Monday. I understand that these things happen and I was unlucky and just received a lemon. I talked with the owner of PSC in Moab and he was an awesome guy and very helpful!

UPDATE FOR THIS THREAD:

Not sure if this works for the standard JK Pump, I have the new setup that PSC makes specifically for LS swapped JK's.

I talked to Wes at Trail Jeeps and he told me they had the same issues and said that the OEM o rings that PSC installs when they manufacture the pumps is too small, so he puts oversized ones in. So I called PSC and they sent me some new oversized O rings and I installed them. It has completely fixed the problem.

I'm guessing PSC is going to start installing bigger o rings from the factory now but if you already have one of these pumps, i'd highly recommend pulling the pump and inspecting the o ring and putting a larger one in.

Are the o-rings tan in color or black? Due to the heat of the fluid, a viton o-ring (tan) would be a better choice the nitrile (buna-n, black)...

Really?? You just got it installed? I had mine on for years before it developed a leak.

I just realized that I was supposed to finish up my story regarding the cause of my leak (one of many actually).

There are two allen screws located on the steering gear box, one on top and one on the side. PSC explained that these are drilled in to hold the unit while they port the thing accordingly, then the thread them and use the allen screws to "seal" them up. After the local shop here in Reno had replaced the ram assist lines and then the o-rings on the reservoir return line and power steering pump high pressure line, it was still leaking. So I stood over the steering gear box and while having the technician go lock to lock, I saw fluid seeping out of the screws. I then went to apply teflon tape to those screws and the leak stopped. However, I noticed that it ha started leaking again. I am curious if teflon tape (you know, plumbers tape) is resistant to the power steering fluid? Maybe it has eaten through again?

I tell you, I am very unhappy with the prior's shop installation on this one. I found another leak on the reservoir return line due to a shoddy return line splice with hose clamps and then a HUGE kink in the reservoir line to the power steering pump. I mean, so large, that my friend, who is a hydraulic expert, noticed it and told me to stop driving the rig until that is fixed. I removed the two lines and will have new lines built by Reno Hydraulic here in Sparks, Nevada. I will be re-routing the gear box to reservoir return hose around the back of the engine, foregoing the rabbiting of line through the front.

I get a little frustrated having to fix the shop mistakes, but then I am told this is normal and part of the "fun". The good thing is that I continue to learn from these issues, which makes me understand my Jeep more. At least I have that going for me.

In my experience teflon tape doesn't like oily situations I would clean it up really well and something like a high temp oil resistant rtv or something similar And the kink in the line might be causing enough back pressure to create leaks in the system at any weak point ... just my thoughts
