ANOTHER WINDSHIELD Bites the Dust - What Number are You On?

FYI: I called my State Farm ins agent to finally put a claim in for my big windshield chip. They offered to fix it for free but I told her that it’s the original glass and it’s really pitted and difficult to see through in certain conditions… getting a brand new OEM installed next week for free. 😁 She said it’s part of our comprehensive and that the deductible is $0. So those of you with State Farm should have the same options.

If you do the math, you will find that you have already paid for the windshield many times over already. The insurance company is making a killing from me. It seems better to pay that money into a savings or investment account since it won't take long to save enough for a windshield.

We don’t have special windshield coverage like I thought, it’s just the standard comprehensive. However, if you do the math, just paying for insurance, we’ve paid for the vehicle, the house, the toys, etc., at least I got some of my premium back this time. Works for me.

You're legally required to carry vehicle insurance. So if you're already paying, why not make it count? A car loses value the moment you drive it off the lot, but repair costs stay high. That’s a bad equation unless your coverage actually protects you.

Personally, I’d rather spend an extra $65 a month for a $0 deductible and solid 100/300/100 coverage than skimp and get hit with a $1,400 bill for a single windshield. And I’m not speaking hypothetically. I’ve owned this vehicle for 10 months and I’m already on windshield #3. Without the low deductible, I’d be out $2,800 for two replacements in less than a year. That’s nearly four years’ worth of the upgraded insurance cost.

Do the math: $65/month adds up to $780 a year. At $1,400 per windshield, I could replace 21 windshields before the cost of repairs outweighs the extra coverage. That’s not being wasteful, that’s protecting an investment.

You're trying to reason with Bob. He'll likely respond with another AI Bot response.

If you do the math, you are wrong. $0x60 months is $0. Do you want my 2 year old to tutor you?

I am sure that your 2 year old is a genius. It runs in the family.

For us, the zero-deductble windshield coverage is an option (which we continue to pay).

You might replace 3 windshields in a year, or it might take 6 years (as it did for me).

Regardless, it is easier for us (humans) to part with a routine small payment to the insurance company than to be faced with paying for the repair directly. If it is just a crack, then most of us would be willing to live with the crack rather than paying for the replacement.

Do you argue with yourself on a regular basis?

So, I almost forgot to post this but, here's a shot of what the rock strike on our big Gladiator looked like before...

And, here's what it looks like after I used the RainX repair kit...

And I should note, I would have taken a closer pic but it's so faint now, I couldn't get my phone to focus on it.

That looks great.

Thanks! I have to say that I'm really happy with the fix especially being that you can hardly see it at all now. Can't believe Safelite was going to charge $170+ to do the same thing
Honestly back in the day for 40 bucks, anyone would jump at the opportunity. Replacements were 150-200. Crazy repair costs are what they are now when anyone like you can just go buy a kit.

You think that deductible is only for windshields? Lol how cute.
