A "constant squealing" would not be a joint issue. Being that it's happening while turning, have you checked your steering fluid level? Might be a bearing going bad on a pulley, maybe have someone turn the steering wheel for you while you give things a closer listen.

What a pain but glad to hear they were able to duplicate the problem and that what you had was just a bad unit. Bummer they didn't have any new stock but I'm sure a refub will be fine especially if they offer the same warranty on it.
