Does the wind blow in Pueblo? I know in Gunnison in the winter the wind blows and there is always some god awful negative temp with the wind chill. I hate the wind!

Lived in Pueblo West for 24 years. Expect a wind storm or two in the Spring while winter and summer battle it out. Not much snow at all. Kind of the "Banana Belt" of Colorado. It's like Pueblo had a done over it. While it snows hard all around Pueblo gets a bit of wind and no precip. That's why Pueblo looks like it does ( brown with lots of tumble weeds). Summer temps get just under and right around 100 but it's dry and cools off pretty good at night for sleeping with windows open. Think 11% to 15% humidity. The prairie has its own beauty especially at sun set when the sun sets over the Wet mountains. Pueblo is just a tad over 100k people and Pueblo West is about 30k. Pueblo West is a Metropolitan District and in Pueblo County so no real rhyme or reason to housing covanents. You'll see one really nice expensive house $500k next to a kind of dumpy looking house. Did I mention lots of tumble weeds! It's not uncommon to have them piled as high as your house after a wind storm. About 325 days of sun each year! All that said there's something very magical about the desert / prairie in southeast Colorado. Great access to all things Colorado from Pueblo or Pueblo West. The town is experiencing a bit of a slide in crime rate and economy (was a big steel town years ago). As for schools I'd say about average. I'm an Army Brat and as such have been to way more school districts than the average person. Much of the effectiveness of education comes down to the student. In other words I've seen students attend top notch school districts and become nothing in society. Yep. Was a teacher once. I know many natives of Pueblo who graduated went on to college and have very successful and lucrative careers. Overall I'd say it's a pretty cool place to raise a family if you can find a job that allows you to raise said family. For retirees it's really good. State taxes on the low side but not non existent like TN, or TX.

Used to take Gold Camp road ( or Phantom Canyon road from US Hwy 50 between Pueblo West and Canon City) up to Cripple Creek in the summer to get an ice cream cone and walk around. That was before Cripple Creek became a casino town.

Definitely a great Colorado mountain town. Cottonwood Pass and Harvard Lakes are nice.
