Has anyone ever had a D30 front axle housing break in a Grand Cherokee? my son is building a 1996 ZJ and wonders if many people have had issues? any input good or bad would help.

Depends on the size tires. Usually good up to 33" tires. Any larger and many swap in a HP D30 for the front and a ford 8.8 for the rear. Big thing to watch out for is at the 4"~6" lift mark the rear upper control arm upper mounts like to tear off. Otherwise, they make very competent offroad vehicles. Their breakover angle on 31" tires is superior to a stock JKU rubi.

Sent from a a few tin cans and some string.

i had 33's with 4.56s and a detroit trutrac in a dana 30 and really beat on it hard. really hard, had zero problems. 4.5" springs 2" pucks adjustable short arms and i never had any issues with control arm mounts.

Yeh, he's worried about his so I figured I'd through out the question so he could hear it from someone else. I had a 95 with 6" lift and 35's that we put through the paces.
