smooth cut
JDDK, what did you cut with to get such a smooth transition from the main bumper and your modified end cap? I cut an extra bumper I picked up and the cut looks horrible. It is straight, just doesn't look as good as yours.

I used a sawsall with a couple old crappy blades that I had to force through the metal bumper. I actually strained my lower back doing it. It was getting dark too. I cleaned the edges with a file. Then i cut the end caps off the 2 pieces and notched them and slid them inside the bumper.

Use tape to mark your cut lines and get new long metal cutting blades and it should go easier than mine. Also easier to do while on the vehicle as the sawsall is very unstable and its motion is like a jackhammer.
This entire mod is like 30 minutes going slow.
I used an angle grinder to cut in the notches on the endcaps so they could slide inside at least an inch. This way I could screw through the overlap from inside and underneath so there are no visible bolts or rivets. Be sure to cut those end caps a little long initially.

Yes, some people leave the plastic skid plate off but I decided to trim the sides and put it back on until I can get a new metal skid plate.
If you plan on welding the plastic then you should hold on to some of your trimmed pieces so you can use them as filler material to fill the gap on the underside of the connection. Here are some photos of the weld. Not sure why but my photos are rotating -90 degrees????

DCT1964, do you have a specific writeup for yours? I absolutely love the look of yours, especially with all the bolts. Just wondering how much you left on the bumper and how short you made the end caps.

I cut them off so there is about 2 inches or so inside bumper, just enough to get some screws in it.

Is there any write ups done on the rear stock jk bumper?? Like to cut off the end parts that wrap around to the fenders?
