Made me some rocker guards

I haven't really posted much on here but thought I could start now and share the rocker guards I made up. I needed to get rid of the old Smittybuilt junk and get something I could trust a little better... So... I built these... 3/16" plate steel side and bottom with a 2" square .120 wall square tube for the corner. Then 1 1/2" .120 wall tube step. I lucked out and found the plate steel already cut in 5' x 6" pieces so it was just a trim to fit with those. Picked up some flat hex bolts, from home depot, that could be countersunk. Once I had the plates and square tubing in place, I tacked it and then started welding a short passes. I welded it all together while it was mounted on the jeep because if I did it on the bench, and it warped, I'd never get it back on. Because of that, most of my welds were overhead so they are a little rough... Don't judge. I then ground down some of the welds (not perfect but doesn't matter to me) and then painted. Installed. Ready to test. All in all, I spent about 100 bucks in materials (all metal was from the remnants pile) plus a cpl days of labor.

Nice job! That was a lot of welding, but turned out better looking than the usual making them out of angle iron.

I feel your pain with all the grinding... It's my least favorite part of fab work, but also one of the easiest.

They turned out great though! I would've never guessed they were homemade!

My ride- 2001 power wheel, 11" plastic tires, upgraded battery, boat sides, custom bumpers, tow hooks, new paint.

Very nice and clean looking. Of course there's only one way to see how well they work. Enjoy!:thumb::thumb:

Thanks guys! Yup, I'm stoked to put them to the test. I'm going to try some new tube fenders next.

Put them to the test on the Rubicon and then again up in shaver lake. Worked great.
