Jeep Twitter feed hacked day after Burger King’s

A day after Burger King was the victim of an apparent Twitter hack, Jeep's verified Twitter feed appears to have fallen victim to one, too.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, the description of the car maker's Twitter account was changed to say it had been sold to Cadillac, its avatar swapped for a Cadillac symbol, and its feed filled with posts containing language not entirely suitable for work.

"You'll never catch @50cent ridin in a Dirty Ass @Jeep," one of the less-offensive tweets read. "#ForDaLuLz #FreeJeep."

"Sorry guys ... no more @Jeep production because we caught our CEO doing this," another read, linking to a photo of a young man smoking from what appears to be a glass pipe.

In a meta-move, Jeep's Twitter feed—which has more than 100,000 followers—also featured retweets of Twitter users who noticed the apparent hack.

"First Burger King now @Jeep," @johnnyteater wrote. "Glad people have so much pointless time on their hands."

"Does @BurgerKing have any advice for Jeep?" @helloandrewc asked.

By 3 p.m., the messages had been deleted and Jeep's logo and branding were restored.

A representative for Jeep owner Chrysler did not immediately return a request for comment.

Burger King endured a similar attack on Monday, when its Twitter account suggested the restaurant chain had been sold to McDonald's. According to Mashable, the hacktivist group @DFNTSC claimed responsibility for the social media shenanigans. The Burger King account was suspended until the Whopper-maker could regain control.

A McDonald’s vehicle was initially uploaded as Jeep's Twitter background on Tuesday, suggesting the same group was responsible.

Here's another article about it...

Jeep Twitter account falls to hackers in latest whale of a fail

jeep-hack1.jpg

A day after hackers took over the Twitter feed of Burger King and switched it to a promotion of McDonalds, a similar effort successfully took control of Jeep's Twitter handle, swapping the user icon for the Cadillac logo and sending a barrage of expletive-filled tweets. Jeep's SUVs may be rugged, but its passwords apparently aren't.

The breech of Jeep's account happened about 1:30 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday, and as with Burger King, the hackers quickly began sending messages similar to the ones Monday, with call-outs to the hacking group Anonymous and jokes that the brand had been sold to Cadillac and that Jeep stood for "just empty every pocket." The background image on the account was also changed to a Internet-famous shot of a McDonald's-themed donk. Within a half hour, many of the tweets had been deleted, although the hackers appeared to still be in control; a spokesman for Jeep said the company was "working to resolve" it quickly. (Cadillac also disavowed any role, as McDonald's did on Monday as well.)

While Burger King scrambled to deal with the fallout from its hacking, the event added 30,000 followers to the account, which before the hack had been a dull stream of daily coupons. That's part of the appeal of hacking such an account; access to a high-profile tool that has 100,000 followers but rarely says anything as noteworthy as what a few hackers can dream up.

Caught the Bug
Although its a pain to be hacked, it does or should give twitter insight into its security decencies. Hopefully they can learn how to secure their servers better!
