Upgrade radio

I was thinking of upgrading the radio. When iv done it before you just bought the wiring for local electronic store ( i.e. best buy) and you were good to go. Well I was doing research on Crutchfield and it recommended I get a special wiring harness because we don't have accessory power. Is this wiring harness Necessary or can I just run a simple plane Jane one ( hope that makes since )

Yes, you should get a harness, it's worth it. Jeeps now use a CAN bus to tell the radio when to power on, opposed to how a car used to be where when you turned the key on and 12v went through the yellow accessory wire powering up the radio. The new CAN Bus wiring harnesses see the "turn-on signal" and send power out through the yellow. PAC-audio makes good stuff check amazon for the C2R-CHY4. also if you want your steering wheel controls to still work with an aftermarket radio they have modules you'll need for that as well.

No steering wheel controls here but thanks for the info. Ill have to see where I can get a deal on it Crutchfield wanted $50 for it.
