Typically a strap (its A LOT faster) but it all depends on the situation.

Yup. All depends but straps usually get the job done if its nothing crazy.

Usually depends on how stable of ground the tow vehicle is sitting on. If your rig is gonna be sketchy pulling or there is something keeping you from driving forward then use the winch. We also tend to use a winch for a flop or near flop because you get better control.
Most of the time we use a strap though. We don't have mud to get stuck in so usually a rig needs help climbing a rock. A lot of the time it is a pain to turn around in a canyon anyway so a strap is much easier.

It depends on the situation because if your solo a strap won't do you any good

That's what the wife is for. Hook the strap up to your rig, toss her the other and and tell her to pull...haha. No but on a serious note, use the winch for slower more controlled pulls and a strap for quick pulls "yanks or tugs". If your going to use a strap however always try to pull going forward. Reverse is a weaker gear and can fail. It can be done as a last resort but its not preferred.
