Wheel off-set. + or - ?

Alright the wheels im interested in are Ballistic Off-Road 17x9 with 4.53 back space, the only question I have is if I should go -12 or +12 mm off-set. I will be running at least 35/12.50's. Thanks for any info.

I think this will help:

Edit... For 4.5" of backspace on a 9" wide wheel you are looking at -12mm of offset.

yes this is a very helpful chart! helped me understand the -12 off set better as well
