hi guys - any clues as to what this might be -I put a screwdriver up to the transfer case and the noise seems to be coming from there (2008 JKU Auto Petrol). Well, i tried several spots with the screwdriver and this was the loudest spot.

The rattle/knocking sounds seems be occur once per wheel revolution.

Yes, the boot on the front driver shaft is worn / slightly ripped, but it not touching / fouling anything at this low rev speed.

The Jeep is in 2H with the front up on axles stands, allowing me to rotate the wheels by hand.

thanks for the response. yeah, it's a stock drive shaft. what is it they say about Jeeps -- Just Empty Every Pocket -- oh well, another weekend project for me LOL. local guys here reckon replace it with a Tom Woods - about AU$700 plus fitting (which i believe i can do myself)

I'm assuming your in Australia? If I recall they are super strict about lifts and keep you below 3" correct? I would save your money and buy a used JK drive shaft from another jeeper or junk yard. Stronger than a 1310 and a ton cheaper!
