View Full Version : 50" LED Light Bar..yes or no?

So I'm considering a 50" light bar up top on my JKU. I use my 10" bar and Dually's pretty much every night on my way home from work thru dark wooded roads with lots of wandering critters on them. I am about to pull the trigger on a 50" bar.

Here's all my questions:

For those of you who have one, is it worth it?

And for those of you who don't, why not?

Also, for those who do have one, can you post some detailed pics?

What mounting bracket do you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have one because I cannot afford one lol. My KC Daylighters do the job for me without breaking the bank. I would love to have one but can't justify the price tag.

Being from Ohio when we wheel at night we are to close to use those monster bars. You end up blinding all the people in front if you. I instead have 4 pairs of duallys mounted at different levels. This gives me options to disperse my light. Also they are all at or below the hood. This prevents glare or blinding my buddies.

I love the look of the 50" bars but for the price I got much more usable light from my bull bar and hood latch lights.

However, if I was wheeling with more than a few vehicle lengths on the trail I'd totally be rocking a 50". :)

I totally feel the same way about 50" light bars. For me the 20" and Dually's work more than fine. There's plenty of light to see down the trail here's how my set up looks 59712
Most of the time when at night the head lights and Dually's have a nice spread, now add Trucklites or hid's and it would work great, but that's just my opinion.
Everyone has different needs.

Yeah...I honestly probably don't NEED one...but that line between need and want is a blurry faded line when it comes to my Jeep! I really think it looks great...now I'm just searching for pics of the setup...decisions, decisions...

I already have Truck-Lites, Duallys and a 10 inch bar...it's not like it's ever too dark in front of my Jeep at night...

Don't have one, but do want one. I like the look they add to the Jeep, but honestly would probably rarely use it. However it would really help light up the dunes when we wheel at night due to the area that is in front. I think if you wheel more trails and such at night, it would not be as beneficial as a wide open space like on the dunes.

I don't have one but it's on my list of things I need to buy.

I like the look...I ran into a yellow 2 Door JK at Rausch Creek and he had one and he said he got his off Ebay for $300. bucks. I looked it over and saw it with the bar on...Looked legit.

I recently bought a 50" eBay light bar for 250 and can't lie it's amazing and just as good as the highly priced competition!! If you wheel at night ots perfect if you don't I really don't see the purpose unless you like the look. I have the rough country mount and it fits perfectly nice and tight fit and the mount is fairly priced. Having used the light bar a few times now I would never not have one of these on my rig it literally turns night into day!! Well worth it IMO and the 50 puts any 10" or a pillar lights to shame trust me I have the rigid dually floods and they are basically useless when the 50 is on but they still look sexy lol

I don't always wheel , but when I do I keep it tight......... Stay dirty my friends.

It is and they gave me a great quote plus they are only 40 minutes south of me so I drove to their shop and they did the install with the A pillar switch right above my D2's switch....Sami the owner is a great guy and him and his partner did an awesome job on the install.....

As for lighting someone up who cuts you off.......only twice have I done this and they cut me hard enough to make my rig turn almost sideways so they totally deserved it.......I high-beamed my HIDs and switched on the D2's and gave them the 50".......I turned them off only when the paint started to smolder on their back decklid......it will burn your retinas out....debilitating for sure

They can be a little noisy but it's a very east instal just hook up a relay so u don't melt your switch cuz it's got about 300w of juice when on I think maybe I'm wrong but I put a relay on everything just as a safety precaution

Just my humble opinion … If I am on the trail and the rig behind me fires up a 50” light bar, we are having some problems. >:(
They are fine and money well spent if you are alone and on a heavily wooded trail or out in the desert. But on a run with other Jeeps? Turn that damn thing off. :asshat:

I have a 50" bar from black box logistics and the rigid dualies as well as their 20" E-series bar on my bumper. Do I need it? Nope. It looks good though! Only complaint is that it seems to make more wind noise at speed. Th black box bar does come with a foam end cap mod that gets rid of the "whistling" that many complain about.

I've had a 50" and duallys on my jeep for almost a year now. They are pretty damn bright. Although I tried to get rid of the death whistling noise from the 50" but it failed so I've been turning up the radio for now. It was worth it though as long as no one is in front of you on trails...😵

How did you mount your Dually's on your quarter pounder? I am considering a similar setup, with the amber lenses and all. I suppose if I got super creative with the cutter I could do some flush mounts in a similar location, but I'm just interested to hear how you did that.

I went with the Rough Country mount for 50" LED.....it comes already powder coated with all the hardware for install.

Thanks, I actually ended up ordering the same one. Should be arriving Monday.

Did you have any fitment problems? A few others on this thread said the RC mounts didn't really hug the a-pillar with the 52" light bar installed. If you have any closer pics of the mounts, specifically ones that show it from the back along the pillar, that'd be great!

Fir-na-tine

That mount is made to fit a 50" LED........My guess is that the extra 1" on each side pushes the top of the mount out and thus makes the fitment not parallel with the A posts and creates the gap that some have expressed......I don't have that problem.....the mount is not flush with the A post on mine only because of the rubber gasket that is in place to separate the mount from the A post so there's no metal against metal.....the gap that creates after it's bolted on is minimal........I'll post pics soon to give you a visual.

Kind of a crappy picture with everything being the color black........there is a gap 3/4's of the way up the A post because the A post is curved.......but from there down it's pretty much flush sans the gasket......that gap up top may bother some but it doesn't bother me and to be honest I've never really noticed it.
