kayak carrier for soft top jku?

I dont want a bulky rack system but Id like to take some float trips in spring. Any good methods for carrying a kayak with soft top up?

I know Thule makes a lightweight tow behind trailer. I have a soft top only and have a canoe I carry, but I just pull the top down and use pool noodles on the gunwales.

I guess I just have to get used to leaving top down...just feels unsafe on some pulloffs to leave top down. Not like a jeep is very secure anyways...lol

You could also use "goal post" racks if the kayak is long enough and you have both front and rear hitch receivers. 1391653965647.jpg

That trailer is nice...but pricey. I like the goal post idea. Guess a light bar of some sort would fo for front and the goal post in back...

Caught the Bug
If you have any welding skills, build your own. You can find single jet ski trailers on craigslist cheap. Build a rack on it out of some tubing and there you go.

This is what I plan on doing once my daughter is old enough to get her own boat. Already have the trailer since I sold my jet ski with the double trailer I had. Build the rack high enough off the trailer frame, then you can build a box or find a used truck tool box to put under the rack to store and lock up your gear (paddles, PFDs, etc.)
