Hey folks its my first post on WAL but I am in no way new to Jeeps. Recently sold my 5th jeep a 1998 Jeep Sahara lifted/geared/locked. I'm in the market for a new 2014 2 door jk and the only thing I hated about my TJ was the automatic (3 spd w/od). I always wished it was a manual. So now going forward I have been searching for a manual barebones sport but there is very few within 1000 miles from me. I have searched but wasn't successful in a thread where current 6 speed owners talked about what their experience has been with the manual. By experience I mean fuel economy, drivability, problems and even if they smoked an auto with the same mods ( I know I know jeeps aren't meant for racing or getting good mileage). Kinda want to see if I wont regret getting the manual ( have heard about some issues by using search) . I believe a thread like this can be beneficial for anyone else looking into the 6 speed.
FYI Jeep will be my dd . I work 10 min from home and no bumper to bumper traffic. Don't wheel hard anymore. Will mostly be used for camping/ beach trips. Thanks

Welcome to Wayalife! :standing wave:

3.8 with 6 speed, 4.10 with 315/70- love it! so a 3.6 has to be even better, right? :D
2.5 TJ with 5 speed, 4.88 with 35's- love it too!

Welcome to WOL. I have a 14 manual and love it, I had an 09 manual as well. Glad to see you wont be in traffic Ha, traffic is two hours a day out of my life that I will never get back. I highly recommend a manual jk.

2014 JKUR with the 6 speed and 4.10 gears. Honestly it's a great combo for wheeling and I will be running 35" tires shortly. No issues with the transmission and you can just idle up obstacles in moab. I was doing significantly better than guys who were out there with automatics. At least the group I was with which is just all friends from here in CO. Mileage wise running 70 I get just over 20, 75 brings me to 18.5-19 and running 80 will bring it to 16.5-17. Honestly I run 70 to stretch out the tank. Also pay attention to the ethanol content of your fuel. That will drop your mileage as well. You will hear about the shifter shaking when hitting a violent bump but no different from any other manual transmission truck or SUV I've had. I would say if this were may daily driver the automatic would be more tempting.

12 here with the 6 speed running 4.10s and 37s. Not ideal I know but I can live with it, just don't use 6th gear much anymore. Jeep still says im getting 18mpg on the highway as well.

My last JK was a manual and I'm so glad I switched to an auto with my new one. And I'm a fan of 3 pedals believe me. I just hated the rattle box, jumping out of gear and violent shifter shake my '12 Jk had.

Ive got a 12 sport bare bones with 6 speed. No regrets yet. I like not having power locks and windows, manual windows and locks don't break. (Or when they do, its easier and cheaper to fix).

I have a 13 manual and i wouldnt trade it for the world. As stated above, shifter shake can be violent haha but its nothing to completely knock off my thoughts of the manual. Just wouldn't feel like i was driving a jeep if it was an auto

When you all say shifter shakes... when does it shake? When hitting a bump?

Keep em coming guys and thanks for all the responses!

I've owned a '13 JKR 6 speed since December and so far am in love! Bought the Jeep new and have since put 12k miles on it. She's still mostly stock. I drove it across the country twice (Idaho to Maryland and back... long story). I've taken it down to Moab and all the high desert fun that the Boise area provides. She's also my daily driver for the ~10min of little traffic to and from work. My point is: I think I've thrown about every normal Jeep-type scenario at it since purchasing and there is not one shred of regret. I'm a sucker for a manual vehicle, and although I'm no expert rock climber or wheeler like a lot of guys on this forum are, I haven't run into any problems playing with my Jeep due to it being a 6 speed. My :twocents:

BTW best unknowing upgrade? The seat heaters... That saved my back on my ridiculous trips across the country!

Dittos.(with exception I have a 13' JKUR)... I can't decide if hydro assist steering or gears are next on my build.

I have a 12 JKU Rubi 6 speed and love it. As mentioned the shifter shake is there but isn't a problem. I'm running 35's on 4:10's and the MPG's went from around 20 to 14.5-16.5 no matter highway or in town. This gear/tire combo actually feels a bit better for daily driving as I felt the stock tires cause the gearing to feel a bit low. Also you can get a second gear chirp..;). I still use 6th on the long flat sections of road but it usually requires a downshift to 5th on any long hill. I'll be going to 5:13's when I go 37's. I've wheeled in some pretty technical terrain and have had no real issues (the 4:1 T-case in the Rubi makes it easy). The tricky part for me was learning the electronics of new vs. the traditional means of driving a stick. The hill start assist can be nice on the trail but on the streets its different having to pull through the break before you get moving. Also the electronic throttle is different for sure. If you're about to stall and push the clutch in to save it, its going to stall. Now if you leave the clutch in the position you have it in and don't touch the skinny pedal the computer automatically throttles up to help prevent the stall. Not bad things just takes some getting used to. If I had to do it again I'd still go with the 6 speed although I have heard some really good things about the new auto. I couldn't find a 6 speed in my area so I resorted to ordering mine and got just what I wanted. Also don't forget the tread lightly discount. Sign up for tread lightly ($100+ Membership) and you are able to purchase a new Chrysler vehicle for 1% below invoice. I used this (Used to be $30) and it saved me in the neighborhood of $2500 on the price of my new JKU. Hope this info helps.

18? So you live where it's flat? I live in Bear Valley (drive the grade from Tehachapi to Bakersfield every day). I get about 11 or 12 if I'm lucky.

Where I live, 37's and 4:10's is not liveable. I need to regear ASAP

So are you the red 4 door or the white jk with all the AEV goodies going up to BV?
