Changing Fluids On A New Jeep - What To Use And When?

So I just purchased a 2015 JKU Sport and I'm coming up on 1300 miles on it. The dealer said I could wait until about 6000 miles before I even thought about changing the oil for the first time but I'd like to hear from an actual Jeep owner rather than just a salesman on this.

When should I be doing the first oil and filter change and on average, how often after that should I be doing it? Also is there a preferred oil and filter brand?

Also, what do you recommend on the following as far as when to change and with what?

Automatic Trans
Radiator
Break Fluid
Front and Rear Axels

Thanks for any help

Personally, I'd just stick w/ the mopar brand oil filter. As far as oil, Ive used Royal Purple in just about every vehicle I've ever owned but that's just me

You can just stick with Mopar filters. Oil is subjective. The 3.6 was actually designed to use Dino. Some people will use synthetic and there is nothing wrong with that. I know a few people had oil burning issues running synthetic, and when they switched back to Dino it slowed down. Pennzoil conventional in the yellow bottle is an excellent oil. Shell has some amazing base stocks, and honestly, your engine will do just fine.

Differentials I believe are 60k miles and the transmission is 40k miles. Don't quote me, but I think that is what Chrysler had recommended. However, if you plan on running through a lot of water, such as rivers, and streams, changing the differential oil early would be recommended. You don't need to use anything fancy here, just the recommended weight.

Hopefully this helps. Some others might chime in with better info than mine, but maybe this will give you a start.

Have fun enjoying the new Wrangler!

i personally change my oil every 3k miles. for filter i would stick with the mopar one but oil doesnt matter. here is wayalife write up for you

for the trans, radiator, and break fluid i would follow the manuel. for the diff fluid do it every 15k or sooner if you do any deep water crossings.

auto trans http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-ups/jeep-jk-wrangler-42rle-automatic-transmission-service
break bleed http://wayalife.com/showthread.php?4335-MAINTENANCE-Bleeding-the-Brakes-on-a-Jeep-JK-Wrangler
diff fluid http://wayalife.com/showthread.php?...K-Wrangler-Differential-Fluid-Change-Write-Up

For diff fluid you should change more often if you are in the mud and water a lot. Besides that follow whats in the manual. Jeep employees thousands of engineers who test durability on everything and set those numbers. If you trust the Internet more than them so be it... lol

I grew up in PA where oil was discovered. My parents both worked for Pennzoil. Trust me the 3000 mile oil change in new vehicles is oil company marketing. It's not required. Tighter tolerances on the engines and much better additives is why the intervals are longer.

Lots of good advice here. Choose your poison and stick with it. I use Red Line 10-40 syn for the engine and stick with Mopar products for the rest. The only reason I ran the syn in the engine was the under hoods temps when we lived in AZ. Brutal.:yup:

Cliff notes.

1) Stay away from Royal Purple

2) Run any quality synthetic oil available at your big box store.

3) Run any quality oil that is the cheapest.

4) Run any quality synthetic fluid for a MINIMUM of 8k. Changing it out after 3000 miles does nothing more than lighten your wallet.

5) Wix makes the mopar filters so run either one. I usually get a good deal when I buy 6 from my dealer.
