D2 Light installation question

ok, just received my D2 kit to mount them in the stock fog light location. Im trying not to dis-mantle the entire front end to get them in, it appears that if i remove the plastic cowl (not certain if thats the proper name) under the bumper i can have easier access to the stock lights. My question is that piece, if i don't re-install it are there any concerns, is it needed?

you can take it off, just don't cross any rivers it's part flotation device...

Just kidding, it's not needed. mine was off 2 weeks after I bought mine new in 2010

Thanks for the info, it'll be off this weekend so i can get the lights in there....

Took off the bottom cowel to put the new bumper on and lost a mile or two per gal.

Hard part is taking out the factory fog lights. They don't want to slip out past the crash bar.
