I bought this axle shaft for my 09 Wrangler and it doesn't look like it fits all the way in. It will still crank around but it seems to far out. Am I missing something?

Probably not for your axle. Are you sure it's for a sport and not a rubicon?

I assume by "crank around" he means the splines are engaging and turning the driveshafts.. so one could then assume that the spline count is correct re sport/rubicon..
Maybe pull the diff cover and see how far the splines are engaging..
