Open air intake... Beneficial or not

So is an open air intake truly beneficial? does it really save on gas mileage or increase engine performance? And if so, which is the best?

Keep it stock and run it the way Jeep designed it. Save the money and use it towards a mod that actually does something

i had bought a piece of autozone tube, slapped a K&N filter on it thought i was pretty cool until i tried to cross some water a little too fast sucked water in and cracked my block :naw:. I did replace it with a CAI but what it actually does...psh i have 37s with a 3.8l and 4.10s i doubt it does anything at all.

I hated the sound and traded my buddy for his stock one. Guess I'm getting older and extra noise is unwelcome.
