Windshilds

I am sure that some of you have experienced the cracking of our JK windshields. I have replaced 3 this year alone and the 4th goes in next Saturday. Has anyone come up or heard of any tricks to prevent them from cracking due to chips at the edges of the exposed glass?

oh man, i wish there were some trick as i've gone though more windshields that i would have preferred over the years. the best i can suggest is to have and small cracks/chips repaired as soon as you can. most windshield guys can do this and it works. it won't make them go away but, it will help prevent them from growing and thus, make your windshield last longer.

Someone suggested running a bead of clear RTV silicone around the perimeter of the windshield. They said that it would help eliminate chips on the edge of the glass which causes the problem cracks. What do you think?
