Factory Remote Start Disable

Hey guys,

We've recently had an increase in vehicle vandalism and theft in the area I work at. A couple of my employees cars have been nailed in the parking lot. Even though I absolutely hate aftermarket alarms, I'm going to install a Viper anyway . While I'm at it, I'm thinking about ditching my factory remote start for the Viper. Nothing really wrong with the factory unit, besides the range.

My question is, can I just simply unplug the old and install the new? Or, do I have to go to the stealership and have them disable? I'm hoping I can just unplug it incase I have to revert back to the factory system in the future.

I believe that with a viper(Clifford, same company same piece of equipment just cheaper) you have to do the "bypass" to be able to use it. Meaning I think the factory unit has to be replaced(and they have to rewire and install a bypass for the sentry key)
