dana 30 carrier question

i have a friend that has done some regears and so he is gonna help me regear my jk to 4.88s from 3.21s. I know i need a new carrier for the dana 30 but was wondering if i need to buy one if i am going to put a locker in it or if the locker takes the place of the open carrier?

Don't waste your money locking up the D30 leave it open.......regear......c gussets.....and don't go bigger than 35" tires

X2 easier to save some $$ for a 44 than put all that money into a 30 and then have it explode on a trail.
