Lift Kit Question

So I am trying to choose a good lift kit for my jku. Since I only have 33's I think the best kit for right now, would be something like a budget boost. So something in the 2.5-3inch range I am assuming.

My dad just put this kit on his 2014 jku and I am considering getting it because it's pretty cheap and he liked it. http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep-suspension-lift-kit-634-7.html

Any thoughts?^^^

My wrangler is a daily driver that occasionally has some fun off road. It's from 2008 and has 120k miles on it so I think I want to get some new shocks while I am installing the lift. Any recommendations on shocks?

Maybe these?

Stay away from the teraflex shocks. They are stiff as hell. I would look at a set of rancho 9000's or bilstein 5100's.

For a lift I would just get a 2.5" bb kit that has the spacers, rear trackbar bracket, and new longer sway bar links. Other than that all the bb kits are the same.

You can easily do a leveling kit and keep your 33s. But a 2.5 would look good with 33s. I personally would stay away from rough country. I have had some buddies that bought there stuff and it was starting to brake after a few trail runs. Not very good quality parts. Bilstien shocks are pretty popular, and so are the fox shox 2.0.

I've got the RC 3.25 in lift, super easy to put on in your garage. Yes not the most high quality lift however if you don't mind some good old fashion hand labor their parts have a lifetime warranty so if you do break them or the start to sag then you call them up and get a new shock or coil. Here's my 3.25 with 32s. Also in my opinion it's a pretty smooth ride.

I run the Bilstein 5100 I really like them. You don't need more than 2.5" for 33" tires you could do 1.5-2" if you want to spend less and stay away from control arms ect. You would be fine with a basic lift like a budget boost or go for a complete 2.5" with some arms. Figure out what you want to spend.

i would save up the money and do it right the first time.

do lots of research before hand and figure out your long term goals with the jeep. if you plan on going bigger later just save and do it once.

good luck

Have you thought about the Rancho 2" sport lift?

SD truck springs has the kit with the Rancho 5000 shocks at ~$300, and the 9000 series shocks at ~$500: http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/suspension-lift-kits/rancho/jeep/wrangler-jk
$440 or so on Amazon

Its gone up a bit since I ordered it, but with the code at the top of the page, you can save a bit.

So far pretty happy with it, will have a new bumper and fenders trimmed in the next few weeks, just waiting on LOD to build it.

I do wish I had gotten the 2 door version for the 1.5 rear spacer instead of .75, but for pretty close to the cost of a set of Rancho 9000s or 5100s, that gets you a new coils and rear spacers, plus bump stops up front.

I like the idea of you going with a budget boost. Itll ride well, and you wont sink money into a sub-par kit that you end up replacing. Down the road. Trust me, i did it.

As for shocks go, without emptying your wallet for a set of kings, rancho 9000's or the bilstein 5100 are probably best as Coz already mentioned.

For decent inexpensive shocks don't count out factory Rubicon shocks. You can get a set of new take offs for under $100. Pair those with 1.75" spacer BB and you have a very cost effective way to clear 33s while looking and riding good.

I am very disappointed with my 33's really wish I went with 35's. The 33's just aren't big enough so I kinda would like to go a little bigger with my lift if possible

I feel like I may want to go bigger than a 2inch but I will look into this for sure. Thank you
