KC Hilites Head Light Install

Installing the KC Hilites for JKs

Thought that I would do a quick writeup on how to install the KC Hilights, which will be simular to all of the headlights.

One thing that I can say about the KC Hilites is they are not flimsy at all, they feel like they are built well..

I will install today sometime, and get some before and after pics of the lights, and how they look. I will also try to get some night time shots of how well they light the road up!

So getting the lights installed were a bit different. You have to literally pull the front grill off to get to the lights, which honestly isn't as hard as it seems.

First thing I did was remove the little plastic screw deals. There are 3 on the left side, and 3 on the right side.

Once we get those, you have to remove the turn signals. I was not able to get the plug off of the light bulb holder, So I ended up just removing the light from the turn signal. You short of have to turn them so the wire points down. then you should be able to pull it out of the blinker housing.

You should be able to pull off the bumper after this, and get access to the headlamps themselves. This part of the job requires a T15 driver, I was able to just hand loosen them.

Once the headlamp bracket is removed you can remove the lightbult itself, I was not able to do the passenger side without unscrewing the bulb, and then it gave me enough room to get my hands in there to remove the plug with ease. There is a red tab that has to be pushed back away from the bulb, then the bulb itself can be removed.

We grab our new KC HiLites bulb, and install the factory like plug, and plug in to the headlamp connector, you want to make sure that you push the red tab back into place, you dont want you head lights to come undone when you need the most.

Now at the top of the bulb it will say Top. This is obviously the top. What kind of threw me off is the bulb itself has self aligning big pegs, now when I installed this there is a big pin that matches up with the big gap. The smaller pins do not match up, they are merely spacers.

Once you line up the pins, you put the metal headlight bracket back on, and tighten up the screens. I just made these hand tight as that was the way it was taken off. I would suggest to not over torque this down, as to replace things may not work as well.

Repeat the same steps for the other side, and you should be good to go. The Drivers side had quite a bit more slack than the passenger side. When putting the grill back on, I noticed that its easier just to let it float around, throw the turn signals back on, and then put the turn signals in, the plug should face down, then turn clockwise to get locked into place. But Over all it was a pretty simple process and took me about 20 minutes with taking the time to take pictures between steps.

Oh yeah! I bought my jeep about 2 months ago, and I drove it during a pretty big storm that blew in...

I noticed driving at night, it was very sketchy... I had to make sure my lights were on several times, because they just did not appear to be on... I think we can all agree that stock Jeep headlights are the biggest pieces of poo you can get. I am not a huge fan of the Halogen lights, so decided that LED or HID was the way to go.. I liked the LED a bit more, so went that way. Very Happy with them!

Did you go with the KC HiLiTES Gravity LED as well?
