JK Transmission replacement / year cross reference help

Hi, I need to replace my 2007 JK Rubicon 4-door transmission 6-speed. I have done a ton of research but cannot get a straight answer if the 2011 part 52104741AB/RL104741AB will fit in my vehicle. I have had a transmission shop who was trying to sell me one tell me it will but anywhere I look online only shows the part number for a 2011.

Also are there different transmissions for different models of JK ie basic models vs the Rubicons or are they all the same?

Mopar changes part numbers all the time and if the computer doesn't spell it out the parts at Jeep don't have a clue. I have checked all the diagrams on factorychryslerparts.com and it looks like the same front and rear case on mine and the 2011, input and output shaft, etc. Everything looks to be the same it just seems there was a new part number in 2011. I have a line on a 2011 with 20,000 kms for a great deal so If I can get that instead of an older one with 50000+ kms I would much rather do it.

Any insight from someone with knowledge around this would be much appreciated.

Jeff

I've always found this site to be helpful when trying to figure out mopar factory parts:

your current transmission part numbers:
http://www.stevewhiteparts.com/jeep...ual-transmission-scat/?part_name=transmission

2011 part number:
http://www.stevewhiteparts.com/jeep...ual-transmission-scat/?part_name=transmission

looks like something in the transmission changed for 2011 and will not mate up to the older models. If it was a match, it would show it as compatible with older models.

Thanks for the site. It actually gave a bit more info/part descriptions then some of the other ones I was using.

So it looks like there was a 6th gear change in 2011 which carries forward through to 2015.

2015 specs - http://www.slideshare.net/Precision...precision-chrysler-dodge-jeep-ram-used-car-nj
6th gear is 0.797

2011-2014 - http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/wrangler-2011-specifications.html
6th gear is 0.797

2007 specs - http://www.jeephorizons.com/tech/2007_unlimited_spec.html
6th gear is 0.84

Input shaft and main shaft are the same for all years.

Input shaft - 6th gear and needle bearing have diff part #'s
2011-2015 - 68089071AA - Gear, Sixth
2007-2010 - 05099794AA - Gear, Sixth

Countershaft assembly - has a stop ring syncronizer different in the parts breakdown and possibly the countershaft itself as its not listed separately but the complete assembly has different parts numbers as listed below
2011-2015 - 68089743AA - COUNTERSHAFT Assembly complete
2007-2010 - 05159162AA - COUNTERSHAFT Assemble complete

I've ordered the used 2011 so I'll see if it fits and update the thread.

good luck! be sure to update the thread.

I'm curious how the ECU will handle the differences or if it even affects it.

I would assume you would just reprogram with a flashpac, that is if you really had too. I have no clue though.

It's a manual so ECU doesn't know anything about what gear you are in. Hopefully it fits, will mean a better 6th gear (rpms would drop a bit).

Well the 2011 NSG370 fit into my 2007 JK and it drives :) It looks like there are minor differences with the 2011 transmissions and the 2007-2010's

Summary of differences:
-Needed to swap the crank position sensor on the side of the bell housing as the 2011 had a different plug on it compared to my 2007
-2011 has a taller 6th gear (which means lower rpms on the highway) 2007-2010 .84 vs 2011 .797
-The fork pivot ball mount inside the bell housing (on the left when looking in from the front) has been extended on the 2011 compared to my 2007. There was a TSB for the 2006 TJ and 2007 JK ( TSB 06-002-07) which added two washers behind the pivot ball.
-One of my positioning dowels on the engine was quite tight to slide the transmission onto, I had to use the bolt for the last 1/8-1/4" to pull it together on the one side. From everything I read they are the same for all years so I figure it was just because I didn't brush out the hole in the transmission where it was going in and there must have been some corrosion since the new/used transmission had been sitting for a long time.

If I think of anything else or if things blow up I'll post here again :)

Cheers,
Jeff
