Is this normal?

Hey everyone, I've been creeping around here for a while and have been saved a bunch of times by articles and posts on here.

Anyway...

While I was wiring up a backup camera through the left side tail light. I noticed there was some sort of epoxy on the side and another bulb on the side of the housing. Wiring ran across the rear tub with the right tail light also having the bulb. I checked the lighting and nothing turns it on. Thanks in advance for any advice or info.

Not sure if you bought this jeep new or used. If you bought it used, not sure if it came from a dealer or private seller, but what it looks like it may be is some hideaway strobes for emergency lighting. If the original owner was a volunteer firefighter or emt, they may have had those installed as a form of rear emergency lights. I am in the process of installing almost the exact same setup on mine, as i am a volunteer firefighter and haven't found any other great ways for rear lighting.

I'll second the above. I have had HAW (hide aways) on multiple vehicles. It appears to be a standard install. You can pop it out and look. Put the strobe back in. Or just leave it. Maintaining a solid seal is imperative since dust and shit will get in.

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna follow the wiring and see if there is a hidden switch somewhere. I did buy it used from a dealership. And I've got some epoxy I'll use to close the seal.

Never mind, I found where the wires go. There is a "CURT" plug hiding in my frame rail. I forgot it was there. I didn't install it but had seen it there before. Lol
