Limp mode ?

So about two weeks ago while me and the girlfriend were driving to Yosemite for vacation, we were driving through Death Valley (I know, not my smartest idea) to get there from Vegas. Well it's about 88 degrees outside and as I was going up a slight incline trying to keep about 60mph the jeep decided to throw the engine light on and put it into limp mode. I quickly pulled over to the side of the road with no service and no help in sight.. Luckily after revving the motor a little bit, the jeep decided to kick itself out of limp mode and then let me carry on my 500 mile drive to the mountains with no more issues.. Anyone have any idea what could have caused the issue? It was a little past the half way mark on the temp gauge. My jeep always seems to have ran warm since day one.. It's going to service tomorrow for a rear diff leak so I'll have them check the code and fix whatever is needed. Any ideas why it did that? Sorry for the long write up and thanks in advance !
