Caught the Bug
After realizing we both had the day off, and itching to get off road, LoPo and I decided to get together and do a quick run up a couple of nearby trails that I had never done. Unfortunately, given the amount of snow fall the area has seen this year, combined with the low temperatures, we were not able to push through the end to end on either run we tried. However, it still ended up being a great day! Here are a few pics I took with my iPhone.

After meeting up we were greeting with some cold fog to start out the day.

Things cleared up a bit when we reached the air down spot. Do you know how hard it is to work a tire deflator when it's 22 degrees out?

Heading out to find Steve's Loop.
LoPo making a "loop" after we came to a dead end. This was not Steve's loop.
Who sees the wild mustang?
After trying another canyon we found an old dirt "road" that looked like it would provide good views of Pyramid Lake. However, it turned out to be a lot steeper and had a lot more loose rock than either one of us anticipated. Despite a valiant effort we decided to head back down.
What an ugly drive. :crazyeyes:
But my map says I can follow this road? :idontknow:
That rock formation looked interesting...so we made a slight detour.

Finally heading to Steve's Loop...
We tried to get up this frozen waterfall for several minutes before decided that having only one wheel on a rock and the other three on ice just wasn't going to cut it.
Probably a good thing, because this was the trail beyond. It's a solid sheet of ice with a few boulders thrown in for fun.
So we got back on the highway and headed to another set of trails.
Working our way up.
Obstacle #1. I heard this is locker territory when its dry, add 2-3 feet of snow around the rocks and it becomes...well, interesting. Of course, we ignored the other set of tracks that had turned around at this point.
After both clearing that obstacle we opted for the easier of the two routes you can take at this point. After working our way a few hundred feet, which consisted of a lot of line checking, avoiding snow covered boulders, slipping and sliding all around our rigs and lots of sweating despite the freezing temps, we decide we had gone far enough and turned around.

Carnage. Somewhere along the trail LoPo broke his steering stabilizer bracket bolt.
We quickly removed it, aired up and were on our way.
All in all a great day! I cannot wait to run this in the spring!
