CALAMITY JANE - One Step Closer to Completion

It's been an unusually tough winter for us and with all the snow we've been getting, it's been hard to find the motivation to get out in the garage and work on our old iron. Of course, on the days that have been nice, we've had to do maintenance work on our modern Jeeps or we used the time to get out and do some wheeling. Well, it's almost March and being that winter seems like it's never gonna end, Cindy and I decided to just get out, brave the cold and do what we could to get Jane closer to completion. Needless to say, we've been spending the last couple of days working on getting her old WARN 8074 winch reinstalled, adding a pair of new tow hooks and dressing her up a bit with a new factory CJ-5 emblem. Anyway, this is what she looks like now.

At this point and time, all that's really left is getting her factory Renegade decals applied and she look just as she did when she was new, only better! Unfortunately, we'll need for it to be a bit warmer to do that. Hopefully soon.

Jane is for the most part complete but there are still a few this and that's that I've been meaning to install to help make her whole again. For one, I've been meaning to install the radiator fan shroud that I picked up for her a while back but ran into a fitment problem and so I put it on the back burner. The problem was that Jane has an HD cooling system and so the lower radiator hose prevented the shroud from being installed. Fortunately for me, it the problem wasn't anything that a little trimming could fix.

And here are a couple of shots with it installed.

While I was at it, I also took some time to install a brand new replacement washer bottle and pump from Omix-Ada.

Jane is of course looking great! Even better with that gem of a winch on the front! [emoji106] Someday, I need to see your collection in person. Of course, I wouldn't just drop by unannounced, but will bring a bib for my drool. [emoji23]

She looks ready for her first play-date, just don't let her make any mud pies. It's such a pain getting the kids to wash behind their ears.

I know you won't be taking her out until after the paint is finished curing but I am looking forward to seeing her run in the wild and am anxiously hoping you will post pictures or video when she does.

Wow the addition of the winch, tow hooks and CJ-5 emblem make her look even more fantastic! I didn't think that was possible!

Looks great Eddie! Any chance of finding an original fairlead? I found this pic online. Not sure this is original but styling seems a bit more of that time period

LOL!! It'd be a real pleasure to meet you in person :yup:

LOL!! We're looking forward to it too. Sure would help if it'd warm up a bit too.

This looks so good, did you restore the winch? I missed it somewhere

In spite of being over 40 years old, the winch worked like it did the day it was new. Completely unmolested I might add too. We did take it apart to clean it up but from the look of things, we were the first to do it.

Oh, it's totally easy to find an original fairlead and ours came with one. Only problem with the one we had is that it's cast iron and worn through in multiple places where the steel rope cut into it. We've upgraded her line to synthetic so a new smooth aluminum fairlead is what we went with.
