Solid Spicer Ujoint?

What's the difference between a solid spicer Ujoint and just a spicer Ujoint? Is there a benefit in getting one? Having my front driveshaft custom made, and the shop is offering the solid spicer Ujoint as an upgrade to the spicer. Thanks in advance!

They are maintenance free u-joints that aren't drilled like traditional greasable ones. Technically should be stronger.

Maintenance free sounds nice. Any disadvantage to not being able to grease it?

Not in my opinion. All the factory u-joints are maintenance free. You will need to remember to replace them as a part of routine maintenance though but, that's true of any u-joint.
