Oil change indicator

So I'm at 2300 miles on my recent oil change and the display is coming on for an oil change. I usually change at 3000 and I think the manual says 5000. Any idea on why it's coming on early? Is their a sensor that reads the viscosity? Just wondering if I should ignore it till my 3000 mark although my OCD might not let me lol Thanks in advance!

Your oil change light is duration based and is not necessarily related to the actual condition of your oil. If I had to guess I would say that whoever did you last oil change forgot to reset the timer and it is just now catching up.

You can reset the oil change light by:

Step 1: If you're not already familiar with the process, open up that owner's manual.
Step 2: Turn the ignition switch to the on/run position but do not start the engine.
Step 3: Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly 3 times within 10 seconds.
Step 4: Turn the ignition switch back to the off/lock position.
