Soft Top Repair Help

I have a Besttop soft top on my JKU. The other night in a windstorm the cable on the spring and cable assembly broke. The cable broke at the back end of the metal flag (where it attaches to the header bar). I spoke to Besttop and they told me I have to purchase all new fabric as they don't sell just the spring and cable portion. I've got a couple ideas on how to do a homemade repair but wanted to see if anybody out there has successfully repaired their top.
