Washington members input needed (fender flares)

I trimmed my stock flares into flats and they got stolen in Bremerton a few nights ago. no biggie to me I had aftermarket no name flares lying around I picked up for $50 off CL a few months back, put them on and all is good. I just looked up the state laws and it says we have to have flares that cover the entire tread of our tires, these new flares will not do that as of tomorrow when I put on my 35x12.5X17 tires. this has me slightly worried until I can get a new set of flares to put back on. although I have noticed there are quite a few JKs running around with flares that don't cover the entire width. suggestions? do yours cover full width?

There is a good chance you can get pulled over in the Bremerton/Silverdale area. East side of the state doesn't care. I've been confronted by base police for my fenders once but they appreciated that I had mud flaps which is also a requirement. IMG_4437.jpg

Thanks. I didn't hear anything about any issues. I think it went pretty smooth. I was down in the engine room so I have no idea what happens topside.

I've been pulled over thrice, once near Bainbridge no mud flaps), and twice on Mercer Island (after mud flaps on) doing 31 in a 25 mph zone. Fortunately no tickets, the police officers were polite and more interested in my Jeep...my MCE fenders do not cover the entire tread, but mud flaps are a must on pavement...

There's a pretty good thread I started here:https://wayalife.com/showthread.php/50250-Extended-Fenders
I'm right above you in Vancouver, same laws here.
Not much out there for us unfortunately.
I've been running removable flaps as cops tend be more forgiving.

I'm not in the washington area, but i was wondering what the point is in mud flaps?

So you don't throw rocks and shit at other peoples cars.

Question for ya, I'm noticing your flares don't cover the tread. As long as you have those flaps on do you get any harassment from local LE?

The only ticket I’ve ever gotten for tires sticking out too far was in Eastern Washington. I️ think it just depends on who the LEO is. Some go by the book and some are easy going and could care less. I️ know my tires stick out too far and I️ don’t run mud flaps so I’m in violation but I just go with it. Haven’t been pulled over in CA for it yet. Knock on wood.

I agree. It all depends on who it is. I grew up on the East side and never had an issue until I moved to the western side.

I got pulled over in Oak Harbor yesterday for it. He didn’t ticket me or anything, just said that I need to get ones that cover. I’m thinking about going with Bushwhackers or MCE.

Quick question if anyone knows. If your Jeep is licensed from another state (Michigan) that doesn't have those kind of restrictions and you're just in the state visiting, can you still be pulled over for those violations?

You can be pulled over but I'm not 100% sure if you can be ticketed. I don't have a third brake light, and when i travel from Tennessee to Virginia i always get pulled over for it. But I've never got a ticket for it bc the officer is always lenient bc of out of state registration. And even if i did its a thing to where you fix it and the ticket is null.

I have asked this question directly to WSP officers on several separate occasions. They said yes they can and will issue tickets like this even to vehicles registered out of state.

Were your fenders stolen in front of your home?
