carriers and lockers?

Forgive my ignorance of differentials, but does a rubi locker use a carrier or is a carrier only used in an open differential? Any diagrams of the internals?

The locker basically is the carrier.

The ring gear bolts to the locker.

In an open diff you have an open carrier that the ring gear bolts to with spider gears and side gears that allow each axle shaft to spin at a different speed. i.e. differential

A full locker or limited slip is a carrier that the ring gear bolts to. They can be engaged in many different ways.

There are also "drop-in" lockers like a lock right. These just replace the spider/side gears but not the carrier. Remember, the carrier "carries" (bolted) the ring gear.
