earth on bonnet

Hi

I changed my 2012 bonnet for a 2016 bonnet. I thought the only diffrences was the water nozzles on the bonnet. two vs 1 in the middle.

However, my 2012 bonnet does have a black cable thats connect the bonnet to the engine wall. So the bonnet is earthed through this cable. What for? On the 2016 bonnet there is no nut or connection for this earth cable. But why earth the bonnet? No lights or anything electric on the bonnet.

My only thought could be some kind of rust prevention because of different materials on the bonnet and the hinges.

Anyone knows something about this?

On the 2012 hood, was there a engine light on it? If there was, it was the ground or earth for that.

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe some models did have an option for a under hood (bonnet) light. Or at least I think I've seen a fuse labeled that way...

If there isn't a light, I don't see the harm in not grounding (earthing) it.

Static charge build up while driving in low humidity climates. Prevent your hood from arc welding shut in event of a lighting strike, or an accident involving power lines.
