Broke steering gear box on the trail

Caught the Bug
So, my Jeep is currently stuck on top of a mountain in Montana. I was wheeling and broke my steering gear box shaft. So, needless to say it is stuck, I had to drive 5 hours home to pull one out of my other Jeeps and going to head back to the mountain tomorrow morning to try to swap them. So, my question is the fluid ATF-4. Also, will I be fine getting it to a level spot before I bleed it.

That sucks!

How in the world did that happen?

I'm not sure, but I would not try to get too far without bleeding, it might not steer well when you need it to.

Hooked
That’s crazy. Good luck with the repair. If your at an incline at all, it’s best to tie the Jeep of to a tree or another Jeep before you get under there to do the swap.

Caught the Bug
That happened to my buddy doing a night run up Kane's Creek in Moab. We had a big group so we tried manually steering the wheels with tow straps and physically kicking/pushing/shoving the tires and got about a 1 mile in 4 hours. At 2am we gave up and left it for dead. They found a PSC big bore in town (Not at a good price) and swapped it in trailside the next morning.

Ram assist time!

Well, I got the steering gear box swapped out and my Jeep home. It was a pain because I was on an incline. I had the Jeep secured with my Warn Zeon, and started wrenching. Here are pictures of th gear box.
