Many people will I'm sure, if they want it fast enough. I called about ten dealers before finding the one I'll be working with and there were only 2 that said they'd be charging ABOVE MSRP. Sucks that dealers do this shit though.

If u were selling ur Jeep (what ever version) and you have a newbie willing to pay you more than fair you would take it.

This is why they are called stealerships! [emoji850]

One of the many reasons to just wait a year

Iím going to wait a year...for several reasons.

First, there is always a few things of concern not initially expected by engineers that get corrected after the vehicles have been out on road for awhile...

Secondly, price is always controlled by demand...not that I expect msrp to go down, but mark up gouging will probably lessen due to the initial rush to buy...

And third, the aftermarket will have more time to design and manufacture goodies...

Theyíre heavily discounting JLs now. Too much production. Wait a year or less. Itíll be the same with the JT. As cool as it is for us Jeep aficionados, itís facing a lot of competition from the new Ranger, the refreshed Colorado, the tacoma, and full sized trucks at more or less the same price. There just isnít going to be sustained demand for JTs at more than MSRP.

This is exactly why I waited to get a '19 JL. I've purchased first year vehicles twice before and regretted it both times. I don't know if there is anything much different between the '18 & '19 JL's, but like Brute said, it gives them a chance to work out any unforseen things that crop up after they've been in the real world for a while.

As far as the gouging, there's always dealers that try this nonsense when a "hot new something" comes out. If someone is dumb enough to pay the premium instead of looking around, then shame on them.

Last time Jeep had a truck ó the Comanche ó they sold 190k units over 7 years (1985-1992).

Jeep sold that many JKs in 2017 alone.

Purchasing any new vehicle is a really poor investment. This mark-up is just stupid, but yes some sucker will pay it. After purchasing our used Durango (my first used vehicle) 2 years ago I'd definitely go this route in the future. Yes they are a bit worn and have imperfections but it also saved me close to 25k on what it would have costed me new. I will get a JL, but it won't be for at least another 4 years so the used market should be pretty good by then. I'm curious to see what kind of value it holds.

Buying anything new is always risky and not the best choice financially. If we didnít own a shop and stand to gain some benefit from being one of the fist to have one, weíd definitely wait. I feel that this will be bringing in a whole new market of Jeep owners though and we need to be a part of that now.

In my opinion, it's just a page out of the tactics that exotic vehicles started. It gives the staff a chance to negotiate the sell of the Gladiator to a local buyer first. Or, make some serious profit on a unit they may never see around again.

I think there are far worse marketing and sales tactics going on in today's scene.

You're right they wont finance a vehicle for more than it's worth, however loan terms don't matter. They'd prefer to do 72 or 84 months as they make more money that way.

Yep, a lot of people don't care about the bottom line they just want a manageable monthly payment.

And I thought 84 months was long, 108 months is crazy. I have a hard time with 72 months, but hell if they gave me 0% I might consider it...haha.

We bought our 2006 Yukon XL during a 0 down, 72 months at 0% interest special. We drove it for 11 years, put 214,000 miles on it, then sold it for $2,500 when it started getting some electrical gremlins. Definitely got our money's worth out of that thing (scary to think we paid about $10k less than the going price for a brand new JLUR.)

Thatís what I was thinking. Insurance will require some type of ďgapĒ insurance if anything. But banks will lend over msrp all day long.

GAP is good to have regardless. I have it on my Jeep even though I have equity in it. Itís especially good to have on cheaper cars like Malibu, Accord, etc. stuff that loses value fast. But if I paid 20k over MSRP Iíd for sure be springing for GAP

And for anyone who didn't know, GAP can be purchased a ton cheaper through your own insurance company rather than the dealer.

State Farm would only sell me GAP if I financed through them, in AZ. They did say they do sell it as a stand-alone in other states.

My credit union gives me way better rates and way better prices on GAP than the stealership, so thatís what weíve done.

New cars are a little different. Iíve seen huge markup vehicles get bought by the bank all day long. Then again a strong FICO helps that

Yeah I was thinking along the lines of used cars.

Yeah the last few cars I've bought were 72 month low interest (1.9%). I always look at the bottom line and see what the difference in total interest paid with be at the term of the loan. I'll take 0% and use their money all day. I do the same with financing things too.

GAP is good to have regardless. I have it on my Jeep even though I have equity in it. Itís especially good to have on cheaper cars like Malibu, Accord, etc. stuff that loses value fast. But if I paid 20k over MSRP Iíd for sure be springing for GAP

As long as you won't end up upside down how is GAP coverage good? Isn't it only used if your vehicle is totalled and the value is less than the amount owed? I'd think as long as your down payment and ammoritized payments will stay ahead of depreciation there would be no need. In our case we were a bit upside down on the trade in for the Durango so we absolutely got it. My ex totalled her 9 year old Altima and received about 10k from the insurance company. It had been paid off for 4 years at that point.

State Farm would only sell me GAP if I financed through them, in AZ. They did say they do sell it as a stand-alone in other states.

Yeah I had the same thing happen with state farm when we bought the Durango. Their interest rate was higher than the credit union we financed through. The difference was a wash on the savings in GAP coverage so it didn't make sense to finance through them.

I’d buy this, to me the benefit of a mid sized truck is negated by being a 4 door and as long as a damn train. I do refuse to be the sucker that pays over MSRP for darn near anything though.

I wonder if the back seat will need the recliner spacers installed? I know my kids appreciated it when I installed them on my JKU.

I was thinking the same thing. I saw one in person and it looks like the standard Jeep backseat. The only issue is that there is no room behind the seats for a recline position. If there was enough room you couldnít use the spacers because there are no seat legs. They hang from the back and fold up.

Yeah knowing people helps a lot.

I haven't checked recently but does Tread Lightly still offer the FCA discount? That's what I used to buy my jeep and the discount was 1% below invoice. I think my membership cost $65 for 3 years. If they do I wonder if you could apply it to a Gladiator...hmmm.

Edit: Yes they do. You have to sign up for their $100 membership and be a member for a minimum 30 days to qualify for 1% below factory invoice.

First one was July 2011 (first run of the 12ís) and the second was the 10th anniversary Rubicon. They said no way were they going to sell below msrp for such a hot ticket vehicle at the time when they had people waiting to buy them.

I was pissed but in the end I still bought them so shame on me I suppose. And not a terrible deal. Just whatever the sticker was I think.
