Okay, this video is nothing special and more a case of boys being boys but last Friday, Cindy and I got a call from our good friend Jim, the owner of Dynatrac and he asked us to swing by the shop for a bit of fun they were gonna have with CODEX. Being that we were in SoCal at the time, we obliged and the following is a video of what we saw. Can you say a 4 Wheel Drive 40" tire burn out with a Hellcat HEMI!! We hope you enjoy.

It didn't so much as chunk but rather, it completely melted down the middle and looked like sticky goo. I'll have to see if I can get a screen shot of that and post it up.

Oh, I should add that the factory tires that Mel roasted did NOT look like this.

Exactly! So why is an axle company wasting time doing burnout videos? It serves no purpose.
Unless they try something as discussed in the other thread to go after the overlanding crowd that this thing is aimed at, this build is a complete waste of a Gladiator. None of their traditional customer base thinks this is an awesome build. At best people think it's ok.

Couldn't they find a telephone pole or something like that to chain it to so they wouldn't fuck up the front of a really nice looking Pete?

Seems like poor choices all around for a group of people respected for making good choices and good products.

I don't know, Jim didn't get to where he is today without making a few smart moves. He seems to be on board with the direction his team is taking him and honestly, who would I be to question any of it. Certainly, I'm just a guy with a website. The only thing that's really been giving me heartburn is him agreeing to run China products. For as long as I've known Jim, he's always been about Made in the USA and if you want people to appreciate that in the products you make, you need to support it as well - or, as much as possible. There are PLENTY of tire manufacturers here in the USA and of course, there is WARN. And yes, I have given him grief about this.

I did the same thing pulling a stump out of the ground last week with my stock Jeep [emoji848]. Only difference was that I was on grass [emoji38].

Seriously though, I think this forum is filled with mostly no nonsense people. Do it right the first time and donít waste your money on junk are a couple of the major reasons we all hang here. We all know that this forum is a the place for accurate information from people that know their shit.

I personally think that Dynatrac makes a great product and one day I would like to have their products on my Jeep (just like most of us). This entire build missed the mark of what I would like to see. I was hoping for something more like Code One, badass, functional no nonsense, wheeling machine to showcase their products. This particular campaign just seams cheesy and cheap (although Iím sure it was anything but). Like Eddie mentioned, Jim is a smart guy and appealing to a different audience is probably a good move. After all, this audience is already sold.

I donít understand the purpose of this build either, and would like to point out that Code1 was the same thing, it was a build that was more aligned with our interest, but it didnít say ďhey buy Dynatrac axles for your JLĒ either. All I got from code 1 was that 42s are bad ass and a LJ JL is pretty cool too. They have to build some thing to put the axles under, and use that vehicle to get their name out there, itís doing what itís supposed to do, itís just a miss for us.

Doing this burnout really threw me off. I mean, the very first thing I would have wanted to do with a build like this is see how it performs on the trail. I think that's what all of us would have wanted to see.

I think that's what the real deal is. People on here are already sold on Dynatrac. Trying to reach out to other people is most likely what they're wanting to do. I can't say I agree with them but I would also be the first to say that I'm not the best when it comes to marketing.

this build just doesn't say anything JT to me, it's another JKU/JLU mod gone wrong

The hellcat is cool but bleh, another burnout... now what? would really like to see it out on the trail or rally competition.

From Dynatrac's IG feed I though it was a tire promo - more of a partnership. IMO if they were highlighting Dynatrac axles, should've ended that with axle close ups...

With the exception of your clip's intro, kind of got the same message off your clip - smoke the tires, they didn't blow and the tires were still drivable.

Tires got sticky when hot but didn't chunk away and blow out...pretty good marketing for milestar IMO

This build just doesn't the initial WOW COOL! factor, it's a WTF WHY??

Maybe I should've stuck with the "nothing nice to say, don't say anything" :cheesy:

Iím gonna need a Hell Cat and some Pro Rocks. Probably wonít be doing much burn outs at all but at least I know Iíll have power and the axles to harness that power.

I would rather see it kick ass out on a trail than doing a smokey burn out. If they make a good video of it on the rubicon or some where like that i think wayalife guys will get behind it.

You and me both. And, so you know, it is what I've been trying to tell them to do but they're convinced that a burnout is what everyone wanted to see. :idontknow:

It has been forty years since I was 16 but just enough juvenile mind left to say ďCool!Ē But I would rather see it in action on trails - one day perhaps.

Sent from my iPhone using WAYALIFE mobile app (http://r.tapatalk.com/byo?rid=73415)

LOL - and really, it was cool in a stupid juvenile kind of way. But, how this sells axles is beyond me.

this build just doesn't say anything JT to me, it's another JKU/JLU mod gone wrong

It was a tire promo, Milestar filmed and produced the video on IG. We were just guests and decided to film what we could and make something of it.

Maybe itís just the red neck side of me coming out, but I think itís badass. One thing I know about those tires is when you heat them up they get super sticky. Having the ability to light all four up and have everything stay in tact is pretty impressive regardless of how you like the build or not.

First off you have to have the power to maintain the burnout, and secondly you have to have a drivetrain that can hold up to not only 700 horsepower, but super sticky tires trying to grab the pavement.

Itís not for everyone, but personally I love the sound of a set of mud terrains being destroyed behind a big V8, and the production quality was awesome.

Well, they certainly had the power but not to maintain it. The whole thing overheated soon into the second attempt and that pretty much shut the production down. I think the main problem was the trans cooler being that it is grossly inadequate in size and type for any hard use or at least, in my opinion. What we have on Moby is way bigger and it still struggles. I'm sure this is something they'll have to address for future use. Anyway, once that pegged out, the computer went into preservation mode and that lasted at least half an hour.

As far as the tires go, I'll have to find a shot of what they looked like after the fact.

And that right there is my entire problem with this build. It is completely incapable of doing that which it is supposed to do. How does 700 hp (or whatever) do you any good at all if you canít actual drive the vehicle and use it? Can you imagine being 100 miles out ďoverlandingĒ that thing and the motor quits, the cut up frame breaks, and the bondo top falls apart?!?

I just donít get it. The Hellcat is literally just a smokescreen to keep people looking away from the mess that is this build. This stunt just proved the point.

I think Dynatrac makes great products, and from what I have seen of Jim in your videos, heís an intelligent guy, that cares about building great parts.

Having said that, I still donít think this build showcases a Gladiator that anyone but a teenager would want, and it doesnít really make me want to buy a Gladiator. What EVO did with theirís, now that peaked my interest in the Gladiator platform.

The Hellcat is definitely a cool motor, but if I want to see burnouts, I can watch videos of Dodge Demons at a drag strip.

Dynatrac, I love your company and products, but you missed the mark with this build.

I know these guys all have money.... I got a different take from this build all along. It felt to me like they tried to make this the most expensive build anyone is going to do on a gladiator. It just seemed to be a JT money pit sort of thing. How much can we put into this Jeep truck... and hopefully have something that is cool when we stop. I just found myself asking "why chop it for overlanding" , "why cram an engine in that is that tight if you are dune running or jumping it?", "why put all the money into a camper and set it up and remove it?", "why mess up the front of that Semi truck?", "why burn up a bunch of new tires?"....

The only point to me was they did it because they could.... not even that they wanted to... but because they could. They could afford it all.

I think that might why it missed the mark with most on here. It used up a lot of funds with cool things... but the "cool things" were kind of not all together in any direction?

I don't think any less of them for doing it... it just seemed to me to be not something anyone would really have a vision for in any "venue itself". It was like an experiment with throwing ideas at something and spending a lot of money doing it.... and ending with something that really didn't find a purpose.

I do agree with everyone that the EVO Gladiator makes me dream about a build that could have the potential to cross overlanding with running difficult trails... and it looks amazing!

I always enjoy a good burn out, definitely melt those tires, cool to see the power of the hellcat. At least Dynatac is having some fun with it. I do however think this does highlight their axle products, with that much power going to 40s and not breaking shit. Great video as always, enjoyed the production!

If you chain a vehicle with 700 HP and 4 wheel drive to a semi truck you better be doing a tug a war. Although the results would have been the same only with the semi pointing the other way.

I have a love hate relationship with CodeX, I do like the tray, although I'm not sold on the pre-runner concept. THis is probably why I'm anticipating Expedition Overland's JT a bit more than CodeX. With that said, seeing the pounding that those axles are going through gives me peace of mind knowing that Dynatrac builds a quality product, I see this every day in my own PR44, but even when I'm confident of it, I still restrain myself based on the whole you have to drive it back home stupid ideal. With that said, seein that much torque applied to those axles and they handled it flawlessly was amazing.

P.S. The Pete full of burnt rubber did suck though...

I think the build had a lot of potential. Even though I really don't like the fact that they chopped the frame to shorten up the wheel base, I think this could have still be worthy of talking about in a positive light if not for the fact that so much of the build was rushed and looks like it.

That's a big part of my problem with this build, it doesn't showcase "the Gladiator" - the pickup truck that so many of us have been wanting to get for decades. The long wheel base, the 4-doors, the bed - these have all been removed.

But, they are getting a lot of people talking so they did something right there.

What EVO did really right was that they started with a $35k Sport and built it up with off the shelf parts to make it into a badass version of a Gladiator and with a final price that's a bit more than a fully loaded stock Rubicon. That was genius.

I don't have any problems with burnouts and they're fun to watch but to me, they're just side shows and NOT the main event. The amount of time, money and emphasis that was placed into making this happen just seemed silly to me. If they want to show off the power of a Hellcat and the strength of their axles, it'd need to be out on the trail. But then, that's just me and I let them know as much.

LOL, that's funny. What they really mean is that their traditional customer base thinks this was a wasted build and the burnout was a big turd. Hell, we can't help it we have such good taste!

I think their marketing team is really just sore because this didn't go viral. Face it, axles aren't sexy to the vast majority of the Jeep social media crowd - they get excited about girls in bikinis and stupid ass angry eye'd mall crawler builds. They just want to look good while they drive around Jeep Beach and park on each others tires.
