Custom Cage Mount Mirrors

Skirmish

I've had the project in my head for a while and finally put it down on metal. I got the idea originally when I saw that Rock Hard sells their sport cage collars separate for fabricators. Theirs are a bit more than I needed (I assume they are steel) and more than I wanted to spend at $36 a piece. I found some 2.5" brass rod and got to milling. I cut off 1.5" pieces then drilled to 1.5" and bored the remaining .25" on the lathe. Next I milled a flat side on the bottom, milled out a 3/8" hole to countersink the through bolt heads, drilled for the tap and drilled again to slide the bolt through the top piece. Repeated the process three more times per collar before cutting the collars in halves. Last I drilled through the flat side, tapped it to 3/8" 20 and tapped the four clamp holes to 5mm 8 pitch.
Here's me tappin that brass. ;)

I threaded one side of some 1/2" round steel to 3/8" 20 to hang the mirrors on

Finally I welded tabs on the ends and drilled a 5/16" hole for the trailer mirrors I got from Pep Boys awhile ago for my original door hinge mounts.

The collars clamp to the ORF sport cage A pillar and are left on when the doors are on.

When the doors come off the poles are threaded in and a lock nut holds them tight.

I just need to find flat mirrors and I'll be happy. The trailer mirrors are curved for a wide view but it make it hard to judge distance.

You should make a bunch an sell them at meet and greets...

Thanks guys, I'm pretty proud of them.

If I rub the against a tree I'm too damn close to the tree and stuff breaks, I make new stuff. They don't stick out very far so I would think you would back out before risking roof damage but the mirror would break first, second would be the pole coming out of the brass or I spin the mirrors out of the collar and watch the body get damaged.
