My $low JK Build

Been looking around and reading about other peoples builds, and so I decided that I should catalog my rig as well. Sadly I do not have pictures of when every mod went on but still have a fair amount of pictures.

I got my JK in March of 2009 it's a beautiful blue 2 door X!

Here it is 2 weeks after getting it off the lot. I wasn't able to drive it for 2 weeks because the morning after I got it we went to Ireland, then got back and then drove to Phoenix... so had a Brand new JK and not able to drive it.
We got it from the dealer under the condition that it come with the Rubicon wheels and tires and not the X's and they agreed.

The first mod that was done was a relocation of the side mirrors. Quick and easy mod... only problem is now with the doors on I can not see the passenger side mirror very well. Meh o well just look over out the window not hard.

In April of 2010 i was able to get a Lift, Got a 2.5 BB ( just a poor student cant afford a whole lot). But I like the look and still do. The dent in the bumper is from a tree when I was wheeling up near Boulder CO.

Next I got Windshield mounted KC Daylighters, and the RC poor mans stubby bumper caps

Then at the end of that summer I also got that Rugged Ridge light bar and 1.5" wheel spacers. (Light-less for a long time!).

BUT over winter break just this last December, I was able to get 2 more KC Daylighters and a friend of mine got me some O s**t handles for the front, also some TeraFlex Quicker Disconnects, that required.. some "adjusting" to get to work properly but they do now thanks to a bench grinder. (not seen Also not seen is a new Bilstien steering stabilizer to replace the trashed stock one). ... Sadly that Bilstien is also been trashed, its still workin but there is a good sized dent in it too. Need relocation brackets...:hmm:might be my next mod.

And finally how it looks today after I was able to get rid of those stock tires that desperately needed replacing. I got new tires. They are 285/70 Hankoon Dynapro ATMs, the funds for 35s came up a bit short sadly but I am ok with this because I believe I have the lowly 3.2 gears and 35s just would have been bad then. Plus it looks good with the uncut fenders at least in my eyes.

Today I was going to go down to visit my brother just south of me to finish making the rock sliders we've been working on for my build. But some bad (snowy) weather got in the way of that. Using his Welder we have been making some Sliders to go on my rig and I CANNOT wait to get them put on. Here is how they looked last night as he had them clamped to his friends JK to model. For $150 compared to vendors sliders I like them a lot!

Of course they will be bed-lined black.

This is my Build so far, its not much but it is mine. Any comments are welcome I want to know and hear what people think or suggest what I should do next!
Just remember I am just a poor College student so little short on the funds :broke: specially after paying for the steel for the sliders last week.
Love my Jeep and its Way of Life! Ill try and keep up the pictures as I do more, specially when the sliders get put on (maybe tomorrow?!?).

Hope these pictures worked too been having some issues with them lately.

Sad Day.

I am not sure what I would be doing wrong with the uploading of the pictures, I am following your instructions from the jk forum. Any suggestions?

Nice build, don't sweat how fast or slow you go; the point is getting it how you like. And if getting there's half the fun then we're just having fun for a little longer than others.

By the way, great job on those rails! Wish I could weld.

Thanks I am very pleased with how they turned out! Can't wait to get them on!

You know that is what Ive been saying too. Then last weekend drove down to start working on them with my bro and in about 20 minutes I knew the basics and was going at it on my own. My welds were VERY sloppy at first and very ugly. But as the afternoon went on I got much better and they started looking amazing. You could easily learn in about a day, then just takes practice like everything else. The one thing that is needed is the welder... Which I lose access to in about 30 days when he gets shipped to Vance for pilot training. :grayno:
Which is why I would like my own but that's more :broke: money.

So at long last those sliders that my brother and I made a few weeks ago finally were finished and installed last night!! My brother graduates and commissions into the AF in a week and this weekend and next weekend are the last times I get to see him for a long while! So we did one last wheeling trip in the good ol state of Arizona! And I tested these sweet things out they held up perfectly took a full solid hit and didn't budge! Here is how they looked this morning before we went out!

I am very pleased with how they turned out!

O and I was bored this week and trying to keep my mind off the horrible set of finals I have coming up... and the weather was amazing so for $15 I blackened my stock Rubi wheels, I think it looks great even if its not permanent I don't mind!

The rocker guards are looking great! :thumb: Looks like you all had fun too.

Thanks man! I really like how they turned out and how they look on my rig. Really sums it up to me. And yes we did have lots of fun! I pretty much dropped the weight of my jeep on the passenger slider today not meaning to of course but it held and only scraped the bedliner off them. Im very impressed!

Next on the list is bumper and winch. Or at least that is what I plan we will see what happens. Unless someone has a better suggestion on what to do next.

Looking good man!

Thanks, I just dont quite know where to go from here, well I know what I would like to do but it wont be able to happen for a long while maybe couple years till I graduate and can actually start making money to afford building it up. What I would really like to do is replace the BB with some actual coils and put a leveling puck in to help even out the Rake and sagging of the winch up front its not much but it combined with the rake is enough to annoy me

So any suggestions would be amazing! That or if you know anyone that has spare parts layin around thats willing to sell let me know!

NAUJK - Are you happy with the hybrid stubby? That's the bumper I'm leaning towards for my winch I won at EJS. Simple, light and cheap. I'm fond of all of these attributes!

Oh yeah...I like your wheels as well ;)
