Custom Half Doors

Would it be a stupid or useless idea to try and make my own half doors. What I mean is trying to find a used door for a JK and, you know "experiment", because I really like the Mopar Half Doors but they're too expensive.

It would probably be just as expensive to cut full doors as it would be to buy half doors.

I've been eyeing the Bestop Element doors with skins. Looks versatile and affordable.
